Just wondered if anyone has been diagnosed with diabetes after radiotherapy and tamoxifen and if it’s connected. The reason I ask is that, everytime I have a check up (dx Oct 2006) or see a doctor, I mention that I am very tired and have blurred viosion. They all shrug it off. The blurriness isn’t bad but I am so tired that I can sleep 2-3 hours in the afternoon and all night. I put it down to lethargy or pill effects but when I last saw a doctor I asked if I could be diabetic and she said yes and ordered a fasting bloods test. When I rang for the results they said I had to do it again but wouldn’t say why. Just hoping it’s because they dropped the sample.Lol. Don’t want to be diabetic on top of evreything else.
Hi, I had a bit of a do with my blood sugar when I was on Taxotere and had my treatment suspended for a week until I was checked out by my local Diabetic Centre. It turned out the high blood sugar levels I was experiencing plus all the stuff like cravings for sugary food and drinking a lot was a manifestation of the steroids they give you for chemo. I was given a monitor to test my blood with 3 times a day and did thins until about 3 weeks after my chemo finished completely, after which it had gone back to normal. If it went over about 12 I was advised to ring the clinic for advice, but they said provided I wasn’t feeling unwell not to take the tablets provided for adjusting it.
