Diabetic Mastopathy
Diabetic Mastopathy I’ve a problem that seems to be extreemly rare and I’m having trouble finding out further information on it: Diabetic Mastopathy, a large hard lump within the breast.
It appears to be benign following a biopsy - but the Breast care surgeon wants me to go back to have a surgical biopsy. However, since the biopsy (6 weeks ago) the lump is slightly painful and has grown (and I’m now slightly disfigured). I’m reluctant to go in for surgery in case it gets even worse. Very scarred about the whole thing and can’t find any information or others with the condition - the Diabetic careline advised me to contact the Breast Cancer care service.
If anyone has suffered the same or is aware of a great info source - please let me know.

No need to ever be alone here. Hello Mrs Jan
So sorry you are having such problems and can’t find anyone with the same condition to talk things through. It’s horrible when that happens but one thing you will find on this chat forum is loads of support from cyberfriends - try Chit Chat and fun if you need some laughter in your life right now. Cathy post jokes for us most days.
I’d never heard of your condition so I typed it into Google and up came loads of info and advice on whether or not surgical biopsies were a good idea. The bit I read seemed to say that they could cause further problems because the tissue grows again so rapidly. There is a suggestion that certain types of biopsy deal with the need to rule out cancer while not stimulating further growth. You 're best to read it for yourself if you can?
With a bit of luck, too, someone on this site will be able to help you more specifically.
In the meantime, I’m sending you some warm cyberhugs to help you get through this - love from P. xx
Diabtic - lump removal An update to my earlier positng about Diabetic Mastopathy - went back to the hosp yesterday for a check up which turned into a pre-op.
The consultant (the lovely Mr Babu) said he couldn’t be certain my lump was benign, nor could he clearly define it a Mastopathy (just a hardening of tissue). He had arranged for me to come into for surgery next week (Mon, 4 Feb) and I originally thought he was going to just remove a small lump to get a further diagnosis on - but, as I’ve said, he couldn’t be certain it was benign so I’m gonna under the knife so he can take the whole lump and surrounds out - about the size of a golf ball.
I’ll loose the sensation in my nipple, have a scar by the nipple and won’t be able to breast feed in my left breast (if we have kids in the future that is), and my left boob will be smaller than the right (but that can be fixed in future).
After spendig the last month, or so, thinking it was just an awkward lump - things have turned all around. But it’s so rare, Mr Babu just isn’t sure and wants it out! I can understand and I know it makes sense but I happen to like my boobs being in full working order so this is a wee bit of a shock.
Hubby has been brilliant and is using his last days leave to be at the hosp on the day of the op.
It was good to read of others who have undergone surgery for DCIS - I know what to expect now.
Good luck to all and thanks for the earlier support messages.

DIABETIC MASTOPATHY Hi,
I can’t believe I’ve found someone with the same condition as me! I was misdiagnosed with Breast Cancer in Dec 03 and then correctly diagnosed as Diabetic Mastopathy in jan 04. In my case, the consultant decide to leave the large lump in my right breast alone unless it changed any more (ie grew larger etc). However I now have a lump in my left breast (which appears larger than that in my right) and I am due to see the consultant shortly. I pray that he diagnoses the same thing but worry , as you did, that no-one really seems to know what should be done about the lumps. I have had Type 1 Diabetes since 1972 (I was 7 years old) so have been Diabetic for 35 years! What about you? How are things with you now - it is quite reassuring to find someone else I can relate to!
I hope to hear from you soon!
