Diagnosed last Thursday

Hi, I was diagnosed las Thursday after , biopsy, I was told by the consultant like he was a bull in a china shop, not the best. Needed an mri scan but luckily we have got private health insurance and had mri scan the same day, seeing consultant on thurs. As I have little or no info at moment, so now have a list of questions for him.
All I know it’s a grade 1, and I need a lumpectomy and radiotherapy. So far I have been very pragmatic, but feel I’m still in denial, not cried yet, but not sleeping well and I’m anxious, as I’m sure everyone is after a diagnoses . X

Hi Susan,

Being diagnosed with cancer of any sort is traumatic, but the positive of your diagnosis is that it is grade one. That means that the cancer cells are as close to normal breast cells as cancer cells can be, and also that it tends to be a slow growing cancer. All positives in the world of cancer!

Wishing you all the best for your treatment and sending you big hugs. Ann x x

Hi Susan8574

Firstly, welcome to the forums, I am sure you will find it a great source of information and support. I’m sorry to read of your diagnosis, the first few days and weeks are always difficult when coming to terms with things and getting to grips with your treatment plans, etc.

As well as the support you are receiving on the forums you might find it helpful to order the BCC resources pack. It has been specifically designed for those newly diagnosed and contains information to help you better understand your diagnosis, test results and the various treatments available. Also, do give the helpline a ring if you need any further support or information. They’re on 0808 800 6000. Open 9-5 Monday to Friday and 10-2 Saturday.

Hi susan, im new too, my doctor offered me sleeping pills… which I viewed with horror and dismay,  but then the specialist nurse said they’re brilliant,  dont make you groggy…and the better rested you are the easier it is to cope.

I done 2 nights on them and Honestly,  great.  I have 3 am busy brain and now I can get to 5 at least .

Maybe your doctors could prescibe some for you.

( of course today my wheels are wobbly, but I think thats probably normal for us )
