Hi lulu
Thanks for your kind reply lulu, I haven’t had surgery yet. But 3 biospys done by ultrasound. With 19 samples taken. No invasive was found on those. Breast spealist said that is a lot of samples taken! They did find a lot of atpical cells but high grade in there too. Which the pathoglist confirmed high grade dcis last week. So hopefully has you say it will be pure DCIS
You mention if they did find it in lymth nodes, the treatment would change. would that involve chemo then??
Also any tip for aftercare when I’ve had the sential nodes done???
Looking forward to it all being done
I wanted to say to all of u that posted, thank u for helping me through this awful nightmare and keeping me sane xxxx
Lots of love Emma
Meant to ask lulu did you have the strattice mesh reconstruction. As read it in one of your posts. How was it ??
Hiya Emma
if you have pos nodes your treatment MAY change, but it may not… depending on the extent, number of nodes involved and you hospitals policy. some units will give chemo to everybody with pos nodes, some will only give chemo if the mets are bigger than 2mm and in more than 1 node… they may want to do more surgery to remove more nodes or they may want to give radiotherapy to the armpit or chest wall area.
as i say at my unit we wouldnt even be doing an SNB for DCIS… but the protocols vary quite widely uo and down the country.
also our SNB is done at the same time as the Mx when you are under the GA but this varies too as some people have it done as a separate procedure on a different day or done pre-operatively… i had mine done when i was under GA so no idea what it would be like under local.
i never ended up having the double Mx… not yet anyway so havent had strattice or permacol (same thing different brand) but one of my friends did… shenagh… ill let her know and she should be able to help xxx
Thanks again lulu for explaining, u r a star xxx if your friend shenagh would give me any advice would be great.
No sure how to private message my email address, how to look into it
Thanks again xxx
Hi lulu just private message u my email for your friend xxx
ok emma… i send her a message on FB and a link to this thread but ill pass on your email to her xxx
Hi all had my pre op for my sential node biospy yesterday. Makes everything feel so real. Spoke to BCN about all my fears. It eased a bit but just so so fear about it being in my nodes. Especially as I’ve had a ache under my arm since biopsys. Has anyone had this, could it be a sign that the node are effected.
Hay an ache isnt usually associated with positive nodes… but i know you are gonna be worried until you get the results of teh SNB and thats very normal as i think we would all be having the exact same worries as you… Really hope the results is good and they dont keep you waiting too long to know xxxx
I had tingling down my arm to my fingers and an ache after the boy oh biopsy, think its to do with there being alot of nerves there and it depends how easy it was to get at the nodes you had out, it will likely settle but always call you BCN as they know the best
Hi Hay123 i am having my SNB done on the 4th dec absolutley dreading it. Mine is a little diffrent to you after i have had the SNB done they want to shrink my cancer cause it is bit so the chemo first. Ive also just had my bloods done. Please let me know how the SNB goes and good luck to you i hope it all goes well. Oh they said i could go home same day.
Sharon Xx
Thanks lulu for the reassurance, also thank u for link to the lady who had stattice reconstruction.xx
Thank jasmech for you post too xx
Sorry Sharon to hear your diagnosed with BC, I will let u know how it goes. We have just got to get through this horrible nightmare.sending you lots of hugs xxx
Hi all had my SNB done yesterday. All went ok. Had to go 9:15 for dye injection. This was totally fine, I was worried as people said it hurt. I was no different than a normal injection just a little stinger for a few seconds. SNB was at 4:30 long wait as last on list. All went ok. Woke up very sleepy but quickly recovered. Back to ward and had a cup of tea. It is quite sore when you move. But no numbness in arm or shoulder pain as yet. I come home last night and slept well. So so far so good, started exercises too. they removed 3 lymth nodes, that lit up ( this is what doctor said) is that bad that lit up blue or is that what normally happens.??? now the 2 week wait for results. Just pray its clear and stay only DCIS.
Hi Hay123 i am glad all went well, take it easy today have you got someone looking after you? I have got my fingers crossed for you regarding your results. Xx
I will be having mine on the 4th and like you i am worried, but maybe not so much now as you said it’s fine. Also i won’t be going down to have the SNB till the afternoon.
When do you think you will be starting Chemo?
Take care of yourself
Love Sharon Xx
Hi Sharon yes it’s fine, sore but fine. I’m hopefully not going to need chemo. I have dcis, but need a masectomy as a large area. Had SNB as needs to be done as having mastectomy and can’t go back easy if final pathogy shows any invasive cells. I just praying it stays dcis. About you were are you on the horrible roller coster xx
Hiya emma
The point of the snb is to turn some nodes blue so they know which ones to remove. Some people one blue node some might have 4 but basically the blue ones are the ones they remove and they are the ones cancer cells would go to. Good luck xxx
Thanks lulu just still a bit confused. So does that mean if 3 turned blue there are cancer cells in them. Or if you have 1 light blue it’s better than 3. I know I might sound stupid.
Oh sorry to hear that Hays123. I am really confused with all this! I am praying for you too. Xx
Hi Hay123
You might want to talk through your results with someone on our Helpline 0808 800 6000, to help you make sense of them.
Hi hay
3 blue nodes mean three are the ones that drain most of the fluid from the breast but three blue nodes mean that they all have canceboor none have cancer. The blueness has nothing to do with the cancer it’s to fro with being the main nodes. It’s only the pathologist who can determine whether there is cancer when he looks under the microscope.
until you get results to wont know so unfortunately you have a wee bit more waiting
lulu xxx
The lymph nodes are sort of lined up between the breast tissue and the armpit, where they empty into the lymphatic system. The blue dye goes to the first nodes in line - the sentinel nodes - so they go blue with the dye. They are cut out and go to pathology to find out if they’ve got cancer cells in them: that is the job of nodes - to catch any ‘nasties’, it’s like your gland in your neck swelling up when you have a sore throat. When you get your results, if the nodes are clear of cancer cells HURRAY - if not, like one of mine, the next line of nodes need removing to make sure those are clear. They do it this way to avoid cutting out more nodes than necessary, which is quite a big job and can leave people more prone to lymphodoema later on.
Hope this helps
