Diagnosis for Mum

Hi, my mum has recently been diagnosed with Grade 2 invasive ductal carcinoma in one breast . There are 3 small lumps , 18mm, 7mm and 6mm. From the ultrasound there is no lymph node spread . She has been booked in for a mastectomy but not until the end of March - this seems so long away . How likely is it that it will have spread to the lymph nodes by then ? They said they will be doing a sentinel biopsy at the time of the surgery . It’s also hormone positive . I just feel so sick with worry

Hi kellyb1

Thank you for your post.

It’s understandable you feel worried about your mum’s recent diagnosis and planned treatment of breast cancer and sounds like you want to do all you can to help your mum at this time.

Everyone’s diagnosis and treatment plan is individual to them and is discussed at the multidisciplinary team meeting to enable the best treatment options to be discussed and planned.

As you’re concerned about the length of time for your mum’s surgery and the risk of cancer spread, it’s best to discuss with your mum and her treatment team. Listing your concerns may help the discussion.

We offer a range of online and face-to-face services which your mum may be interested in.
