DIC/IDC?

Ductal Invasive Carcinoma/Invasive Ductal Carcinoma - I have been really worried as I had no idea what cancer I had, I had been hearing DCIS quite a lot, I had a tiny lump removed on 15 June and 1 Lymph Node removed for investigation. The lump was removed successfully and the Node clear. All I knew was this and that the cancer was grade 2, I knew nothing about receptors until I was told I was to have Tamoxifen and then I assumed I was oestrogen positive as this is then what is used for this.
All along I thought as it was very small and not detected by me and hadn’t spread that it probably was a non-invasive cancer, until I made investigations with my bcn and she told me it was invasive and that I was lucky that it hadn’t spread and the nodes were clear!
How is this type different from Ductal Invasive Carcinoma In Situ? Anyone know?

Hi
Not surprised you are confused - I was too. DCIS is Ductal Carcinoma in Situ ie it hasn’t spread from the ducts and so is not considered invasive. It is usually graded as low, intermediate and high. It can develop into Invasive Ductal Carcinoma which is graded 1, 2 etc. In my case I had intermediate DCIS, with grade 1 IDC hiding behind it. They don’t normally use Tamoxifen, Letrozole etc for DCIS as the benefits are limited. It may be that the same thing happened to you, they initially detected DCIS but found IDC too. But really, really great that they found it before it had spread to the nodes. That’s fantastic news.
Hope this helps, there are booklets on this site as well.

They didn;'t mention any underlying problem it was from others that i assumed it was dcis - there is only about 1 para in the bc books on idc so i assumed it wasnt too bad, why not much info - all seems to be around dcis?
