Diep in Glasgow?

Hi everyone,I had my mastectomy 12 years ago and then had bc back in the scar area last year. So,I want to get my body back after so long and have a reconstruction.Im scared of the long length of the op,also feel selfish to want to have it done, and worried that I might have the wrong surgeon!!!Im under The western Hospital in Glasgow and have been refered to a Mr Malyon. This is my second visit to see him as the first time he suggested only for the muscle from my back to be used,I desperately wanted the Diep as Ive needed a tummy tuck for 21 yrs after 3 big babies ,the last being breach. He didnt think it was a good idea as i have stretched skin on my tummy. But Im going back to try again with him, maybe i could get a second opinion from another PS???This would make me feel whole again, its been 12 years of putting a breast form into my bra each morning and looking 6 months pregnant after tamoxifen.Anyone else under Ms Doughty or seeing PS Mr Malyon? Hope someone can put me on the right path .

Hi Debs,
I had a mastectomy 16yrs after first having lumpectomy and had an immediate diep recon in the royal infirmary in glasgow under mr mckay dec13th 07 and a good job done i also needed a tummy tuck, it is a big operation about 10hrs worth
but i considered if i was going to be going through it all again i may as well go for it, it certainly is not as bad as i thought it would be and they look after you extremely well. I had some stretch marks and quite a saggy tum too but they use all the fat that is needed although the stretch marks are transferred obviously but who is going to see them it,s not as if you would go topless on the beach ha ha! but it is a big decision one that needs a lot of thought. I was very subconcious about my tum for many years so although terrified and not wanting a tummy tuck under these circumstances welcomed the chance when i had it, to get it done. I take it you are quite youngish as your kids sound similar in age to mine i,m 47. In saying that with the steroids my tum is getting fatter as i can,t keep off the comfort foods, i,m hoping when it all finishes i will summon up some willpower and start eating healthy again.
Hope u reach the right decision, remember it is your decision with the help of your team. (also u know your body is never the same but every wee bit helps and if it makes you feel better go for it)
Good Luck
Reneexx.

Hi Debzzl

I had a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction (LD) no implant, with Professor George and Mr Malyon in the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow in 2006.
I was very pleased with the result and have seen him again about a nipple reconstruction.
Hope this helps, best wishes and good luck whatever your decision.

Love and take care
Thistle
