diet help

I’ve just had my operation to remove my tumor and this is my first day back at home. Can anyone tell me what i’m allowed and not allowed to eat? Or can i just go back to what i was eating before? Which was pretty much anything. I’m slim with a high metabolism. This is all so confusing!

I was told to eat normally. Initially I can’t say I fancied much of anything but after a few days my appetite came back. The only strange thing I noticed was that I had a sudden craving for chocolate and I’ve always hated the stuff before.

If you have concerns about what you should eat, Julie, call you breast care nurse, but I’m sure she’ll tell you to eat what makes you feel good.

The whole process is confusing but I’ve found posting on this site is briliant, there’s such a wealth of information and knowledge to be shared, and everyone who uses these forums is really lovely.

Thanks Cat for your help. I was starting to think that i should be back in the hospital. Especially after yesterday when everything i was eating or drinking was coming straight back up again. Feeling a bit better after having a couple of slices of toast and a herbal tea. From now on, i’ll just eat what i fancy whenever i want. The breast care nurse said i should keep drinking plenty of water, but i’ve never been a big drinker anyway. What can i do about my lightheadedness as everytime i lift my head or try to sit up, i get all dizzy and it makes me feel ill?

Hi Julie

Sorry to hear that you’re feeling sick and dizzy after your op. Are you still taking any strong painkillers? The morning after my op I woke up feeling pretty normal and thought this is good I can cope with this, but by lunchtime I was feeling very lightheaded. As I was going home, the nurse brought me my goody bag of drugs to take with me and went through their side effects. The strong painkiller that they had been giving me was the one to cause dizziness. I found that I didn’t need it and could get along fine with just paracetamol and ibuprofen and the dizziness disappeared. I am now six weeks after mx and am having my second chemo on Monday. So far so good with the side effects.

Just keep eating what you fancy and keep well.
