Disability Discrimination Act

Disability Discrimination Act

Disability Discrimination Act For your information:

Breast cancer is covered by the Disability Discrimination Act. You are classed as disabled from the date of diagnosis and it lasts for the rest of your life. So this Act can give you protection for things like employment, education etc.

Despite not wanting to be labelled disabled and certainly not feeling disabled, it has already led to more support for me. I am currently studying at university and the university and local education authority treat me like a disabled student, so I get quite a bit of assistance. I have had computer equipment, desk, special chair (supports my one arm), various gadgets, 25% extra time on my exams, study skills support, taxis to and from uni if I’m too ill to drive (I pay the equivalent of the bus fare, they pay the difference), note taker provision, time off due to the illness is not classed as an absence, a locker, someone to pick up notes or hand in work for me, disabled parking, funding towards broadband etc.

Hopes this information is of some use.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Adele

to clarify I have disabled parking in the university grounds only.

So …can I apply? —for a disabled parking space at work?

For some reason my place of work only provides about half as many parking spaces as it needs .This is despite being in an out of town location with a poor bus service. So… many people park on the road-double yellow lines! or use nearby parking spaces in other businesses .THis is what I do but it costs £30 per month to do so.

What do you think my chances are - given that at the moment I look as fit as the next person?

thank you I have a back to work interview with my manager tomorrow and that information may well be extremely helpful to me.

Ref parking at work I would speak to your personnel dept about them providing disabled parking for you.

Under the disability discrimination Act you can be given preferential parking.

Hope this helps.

Soya? Hi,

This may be a stupid question, but is it ok to eat soya? I know it mimics oestrogen.

Thanks!
