Well now we know what all that was about (see thread DLA 3 years etc) I suspected we were going to be hit in the budget. I would like to know what is supposed to happen in 2013 when we all have to re-apply? I wonder what the guidelines for getting DLA will be?
My OH says not to worry as 2013 is a long way off but you can’t help wondering if you are going to have a fight on your hands!Blondie
You can never tell! Hopefully I’ll be around to find out.

Hi All
I have found this on a website for HIV sufferers (they too are upset at possible loss of DLA) and it may give us some idea of what is likely to happen in 2013.
I found this that they say they have been told by Dept of Work and Pensions:
“DWP have also confirmed that the medical assessment of current DLA recipients will not – for the foreseeable future – include people over the age of 65 or under 18. The new assessment will be for working age disabled people.”
They give the following summary (which we know about)
Summary of proposed review:
• The government will introduce a medical test for people claiming Disability Living Allowance from 2013/14
• You will have to take the test whether you are a new or existing claimant
• The test will replace the current application forms, where an applicant does not need to have a face-to-face assessment
• It will be similar to the Work Capability Assessment, which was introduced last year for Employment and Support Allowance, however we do not know yet exactly what form it will take
• The system will be gradually introduced for existing claimants over 3 years from 2013, so some people may not have the new test until 2016
• The clear intention of the government is to reduce expenditure by 20% via this policy, which suggests that a minority of current claimants are expected to lose their entitlement.
I know that this doesn’t help everyone here but I think it helps to know what we might be up against.

Hi Blondie
Thanks for the info, it made me look at the HIV websites where there is a lot of info about DLA and special rules. It’s good to know the background and prepare for what will happen.
Thanks
Sue
…not sure if thisw test will apply if you are on high rate care or under special rules.
