DIY Soft Prosthesis

Hi Ladies

My hospital did not give me a soft prosthesis when I was discharged after my mastectomy and lymph node clearance last weekend. Apparently they have sent some to me in the post, but they haven’t arrived yet.

Next week I am going in to work for a training course then attending a family funeral. As I am 34E I am distinctly lopsided without something to put in my pocketed mastectomy bra and don’t want to freak people out at either event! I don’t want to buy one off the internet - I don’t see why I should have to if the hospital are meant to provide them free, and it still might not arrive in time.

Can anyone suggest any materials I can stuff into my bra and will look non-lumpy and reasonably natural, in case my proper prosthesis does not arrive in time? For example, cotton wool, pillow stuffing, duvet filling etc (hubby suggested jelly!)

Many thanks

Hiya, bless you. I can’t believe the hospital haven’t given you even a softie. They gave me 2 of different sizes. Have you got a BCN you can get in contact with. My hospital have a lady who specialises in prosthetics, I have an appointment with her at the end of the month.

I would definitely get in touch with them and maybe say you could call in and pick it up or get someone else too.

If not then I would have a go with some kind of stuffing, that’s all that’s in the softies. It’s like the stuff you get in teddy bears.

Sorry I can’t be much use. Hope you get them in time.
