Do you take your letrozole at same time of day as Ad cal d3?

I take my Letrozole at 9am - no one actually told me what time to take it. I don’t know what Ad cal is as I’m not on it but I’d phone the breast cancer nurse and double check with her if you can take both together

Initially I’d been taking my Letrozole at night as that’s when I I’d taken my tamoxifen before I was switched. Then I started Ribociclib and the pharmacist said I had to take it with Letrozole in the morning. I’m on Accrete, not AdCal and it can’t be taken within 2 hours of whole grain so I take it at bedtime as I often have porridge in the morning. You should probably ask the oncology pharmacist for clarification. I didn’t get many hot flushes at night taking Letrozole at night, but I haven’t noticed any difference taking it in the morning either .

Thanks Pod.

I’ve never actually seen an oncologist. BCN and mastectomy surgeon prescribed me letrozole for 5 years

Looks like a lot of us on here are enjoying porridge for breakfast!!!

I couldn’t get on with Letrozole. It made my arms itch and joints really hurt. They changed it to Exemastane and the itching has gone but still have aching knees and ankles.

I’ve never even heard of exemastane. I’m sorry it hasn’t fixed everything xx

Your oncologist will know there are 3 hormone inhibitors. They tend to use Letrozole first.

Hi
Yes these AIs tend to affect ppl differently

I’m going to carry on with letrozole for now. These last two years can’t go quick enough

I find the joint pain and sleeplessness the worst. If I could find something to help me sleep and stay/ return to sleep I would feel a lot better

Nothing worse than sleep deprivation

It’s good you have found another tablet which suits you better

Take care

I have been on Letrozole for 18 months, changed brand to Sun Pharma (I’m due to take them for 10 years in all) but I’m Finding the joint pain really bad especially in my hips now, previously knees and ankle which still flare up. I take my Letrozole every morning, would I be better taking it at bedtime?b as the nights are the worse. Also I don’t know what adcal is? I have had no advice after finishing treatment 18 months ago. Anyone able to offer advice?

I can’t sleep either Lynn. I take zopiclone intermittently so I can get some sleep because I’m still recovering from double mastectomy surgery and now have a cold, so really need sleep!!!

Hi Rosie,

Ad cal is a calcium supplement for those at risk of osteoporosis.

I took sun pharmaceutical letrozol for first month. Couldn’t find a pharmacy with it for 2nd prescription, so now on Amarox brand. Not noticed any difference in them yet.

From comments of others on here, people are taking letrozole at different times from each other. Quite a few seem to take it in the morning. But it doesn’t seem there is a recommended time that is best to take it. I’m still taking mine in the evening. I’ve been tempted to switch to morning, but am being lazy about gradually nudging time time forward, because I’ve got into a routine!

I am now on a remote monitoring system, from the hospital, hence finding other people’s experiences on here so helpful!

Hi @rosie54
So firstly welcome to the club no one wants to join
There are so many lovely ppl here and I’m sure you will other replies :two_hearts:
So I totally understand the joint pain it’s horrible
There’s a few things that you can try- turmeric which is supposed to help inflammation, acupuncture ( I have tried this but it worked out too expensive for me but I did have some good results) and my consultant suggested ibuprofen for a week but I don’t like taking those long term

I take CalciD which is calcium and vit D
I was given a dexa scan before I started Letrozole and I was found to have osteoporosis.

Maybe it would be worth speaking to your oncologist to ascertain whether you will require the CalciD or similar, especially if you’re expected to take letrozole for 10 years?

I hope you manage to get some relief
Take care
Lynn

Hi @cherryblossom1

That’s a lot to recover from !! And to have a cold on top just about is the icing on the cake- not!
I haven’t heard about zopiclone.
I will do some reading up

Hi Lynikinz,

I have just started on Turmeric & Curcumin so hoping that will help the joints. Also the calcium Vitamin D but neither was recommended had to do my one research. So it’s good to know others have had the same experience. This is the first time I’ve actually asked for advice from a forum so thank you everyone it’s nice to know someone is out there.

Hi @rosie54

Good to know you’re doing your research. I’d definitely ask to get a bone scan done though. You may need alendronic acid tab or equivalent to protect against bone loss.
It’s unfortunate that you haven’t had any follow up with the oncology dept regarding this
Perhaps you could email or call them. If you haven’t been given contact details then maybe call your breast nurse to have a chat.

Best of luck

Yes I am on Zollendronic Acid infusion every 6 months. At 71, I wondered whether the joint pain was more to do with my age than the Letrozole. Hoping the turmeric will have some positive effect soon. Thank you again.

I know I never had this pain to begin with
My friend has the same on letrozole and she’s 85 and also suffers from the sleeplessness as well as brain fog and vag atrophy
You couldn’t make it up could you

Hope you’re managing to keep cool and hydrated

Reassuring to know I’m not alone, I appreciate your support. Yes 34c and same again tomorrow. Take care
