Docetaxel and diarrhoea

Has anyone else experienced absolutely vicious diarrhoea on docetaxel/taxotere? I had my final cycle ten days ago, and with all the Imodium and codein I’m swallowing as directed by the Registrar, I’m still pretty much shackled to my bathroom. Added to which I can hardly face any foods at all - bad news as I started off quite skinny and weight loss (half a stone already) is not welcome before my surgery in May. How did others get through this kind of thing?

Hi Marie Else,

I’m sorry to hear about the side effects you’ve been experiencing and I’m sure some of our users will be along to share their experiences and show their support soon.

In the meantime you may find this publication on Docetaxel useful, or you can post on our Ask the Nurse board, where our clinical team will be able to answer your questions.

Best wishes,

Hi

I’ve just had my 5th cycle and have more or less had this problem throughout though I have found a lot of time it’s been food related or certain foods make it worse. I stuck to ‘white foods’ white bread, pasta, chicken that sort of stuff it was all I could stomach really. The chemo nurse told me that marshmallows and jelly babies were good for diarreaha also. I also take the medication they give me if really bad.

coffee and chocolate were the first foods go straight through me!

i hope you feel better soon. It really is nasty stuff
