I wonder if any of you can help put my mind at rest with this one, I am nearly one year down the line and 3 months post chemo, I finished rads about 6 weeks ago, approx 2 weeks ago my bones started aching and my joints cease up, i feel like the glands in one of my thighs are up and painful and I feel sick like I have a golf ball stuck in my throat, I am tired most of the time, I did feel ok after rads treatment finished, but have started going the other way, have had a bone scan, blood tests and ultrasound get the results of bone scan and blood test Friday this week, ultrasound was apparently fine…Has anyone else felt like this???
I think that I had keyed my body up to stay strong and positive throughout the treatment. The minute it all finished I must have phycologically slowed down and pulled back from that challenge. Hence my body reacted as if it was trying to get over a marathon (Which it is for all of us of course). I still get tired and achy when I do too much.
Good luck with the bone scan results, (I had one of those too because I worried that the aches were a spread of the cancer, all was fine).
It can take people a good year to year and a half to feel as though they are ‘normal’ again. We’ve had quite a battering to our bodies and it takes time, both physically and emotionally, to get back on track again so try not to be too hard on yourself, it’s normal to feel the way you do.
Hi Pam, I hope they can re assure you that everything is fine. I think we all get tired more easily now, and I have aches and pains in all my joints from time to time. I also used to get the feeling that I had something in my throat. It can be caused by stress when the muscles tighten so it isn’t necessarily anything to worry about, but I am sure they will be able to put your mind at rest. Try and do something relaxing (I know it is hard) pamper yourself.

I’ve never recovered the energy I used to have. (Gym 3 times a week and a walk at weekends, wishful thinking now). I know we’re all different but can only speak for meself! I had 3 strenuous 1hr walks last week and now paying for it with a cold this week. Run my energy right down. All we can do is look after ourselves and not expect too much.
(Another thing to take into account is if one was thrown into instant menopause by the chemo - as happened in my case. Means you get all the lovely meno symptoms such as aching joints too!)
Thanks for your comments, I got the results today of my tests and they are all clear, the onc said it is normal to feel like this not just because of the treatment, but because of the trauma of finding out I had cancer in the first place…
