Does anyone still suffer from Vertigo?

Hi everyone

I finished my fec chemo in feb this year, about half way through i suffered vertigo very badly, i couldn’t even get out of bed. I was given medication at the time, and have felt fine whilst taking the tablets.Since then i have tried to stop taking the tablets several times, but find i am still suffering from vertigo. I have spoken to the hospital on several occasions when i have had my appointments, but they say it my treatment has nothing to do with it.
Just wondered if anyone also suffered from vertigo, and how long did it last.

Hi
I can’t really help as you have had it longer than me, but I started to suffer from vertigo after my second fec. I finished chemo last month and have been on tablets since then. I have not had it severly but I do get it when I turn over in bed at night fir a few seconds. Both my gp and onc have said it is chemo related. I found on fec my ears were badly effected and I could not bear loud noises and had to mute the tv to watch it with subtitles. My course of tablets is for thirty days and I was hoping it would end then. I have had the odd episode while on the tablets, but it is def better. I do know that vertigo is a symptom of menopause and hormonal imbalance and I did wonder if it might be that too, as it was about then that my periods went haywire. Sorry you are still having problems. Dx

this is interesting
do you mean like dizzy?
i have had endless blood tests and gp visits and no one can seem to say why im dizzy
it makes me feel sick and is much worse when having a flush ,so much so i avoid shops etc now
i have low bp which everyone comments on
im going to the chiropractor tomorrow at great expense as i dont know what else to try

Hi Lincs Lady

yes I do mean dizzyness, I am fine while taking the tablets, but i tried to come off them several times and it comes back with a vengence. I feel like when i move my head quickly, say looking from the supermarket self to putting the item in the trolly, i suddenly feel dizzy and unbalanced, if i am having a bad episode i feel sick as well. I too have turned to alterative medicine in the form of reflexoligy, she can pin point it to my left ear but it just wont go away.

Hi
Mine is not as bad as that and tends to only effect me unless I am lying down. Have you tried the excercises. You can find some really clear step by step exercises on line. My gp did suggest referring me to ENT if it did not resolve. Their theory was that as chemo effects the nerve endings this could effect the sensitive nerves in the ear. My onc said she would only do an MRI once all my chemo side effects had passed if the dizziness continued. I still have lots of aches and pains from chemo, so will mention it again after I have finished the tablets. I am surprised they have not referred you to ENT.

Lincs lady- low bp was what they checked me for first. The difference between dizziness and veritigo is that vertigo tends to be associated with head movement. Mine happens when I am lying down and turn over quickly or tilt my head back. Good luck dx

I have this but have always put it down to my weak ears as when i get slightest cold i go deaf ,but i know exactly what you mean when move head quickly feel woozie,i didnt think of the chemo.

i, I got Labrynthitis half way through FEC, was prescribed tablets which I took for a few days and it went away, my GP said it was viral and I got it because my WBC was low at the time. have had recurring dizziness on & off through the rest of my FEC ( I have my last one this Thursday). I was told it was not related to my chemo bur I’m not convinced, will wait to see if it goes when I have finished

but what cost your health? pity its not available on nhs

I finished chemo in May and finished radio at the start of July. I’m now on Tamoxifen. I have just taken vertigo for the second time, the first time being about six weeks ago when I actually threw up. It is accompanied by a very low grade headache. I’m worried that I’ve been left with permanent recurring bouts now? Is anyone else having vertigo this long after chemo?
