I haven’t direct experience but do belong to a New Zealand emigration forum. I think it hinges on whether you are likely to be a financial drain on the country. Can I suggest you google for a similar forum that focuses on Australia where I am sure you will find some help?
Good luck.

sue i have wondered the same thing… obviously your midder qualification gives you enough points but not sure about the health side of things… its something i have contemplated too but think i may be a bit limited due to my age as i think you need a period of good health for a set number of years.
im a member of this forum which i hope is ok to post… if not i can pm it to you.

also found this relating to convictions and health and has an example of somebody applying with BC at the bottom and they state 5 years disease free…

id be 46 by then so too old as need to be under 45… you should be fine though if you dont mind waiting till your 40.

I’ve heard that even if you are 5 years disease free, you have to have a certain amount of money behind you as you would be expected to pay for your own further treatment if it came back. It’s all about not being a drain on the country you are moving to as an immigrant (unlike here where we seem to help all comers - I do a voluntary job where we frequently have immigrants coming in with interpreters, courtesy of the UK taxpayer).
Soooooooooooo It seems it probably does!
Cancer strikes again. I cant type the swear words i am thinking but needless to say i am starting to steam…
What a bloody waste!
Sue i think because your in a wanted profession though and after 5 years disease free then you would would probably be seen as a good prospect… they appear to have medicare so you may have to contibute more if you have existing health conditions… not been able to find out anything else online but i have family and friends living there.
one is a nurse who has just had an MI and undergone a CABG x5 and valve replacement… hes only been living there for 9 months… so will quiz him about it.
also came across this info…
medicareaustralia.gov.au/about/index.jsp
you do require a medical even as a skilled worker, but if you are able to work in the UK then i dont see why there would be a problem working in Oz… so i guess if it doesnt impact on your healthand work in 5 years time then you have a good chance of passing the medical.

I think it will depend on how long you are planning on staying. If you are after a temporary residents visa to work for a couple of years then I would imagine you would be fine. Its true everyone has to have a medical whether you have a preexisting coondition or not.
If you are hoping to emigrate as a permanent resident then like the previous person said they will look at your potential threat to drain their system. The more years post diagnosis you are the better your chances.
Think i can get a temporary visa if i get sponsored! You dont get health care then so u have to get private so no drain on resources!!
thanks everyone!
Hi Evie
If you get sponsored and get a temporary residents visa you can still access medicare as there is a reciprocal arrangement between Australia and the UK. I’m just not sure how they view pre-existing conditions as I was in Australia (on a 457 visa)before my dx. I have a feeling you would still get access on medicare regardless but you’d have to look into it. A word of warning though private insurance may not cover you because it’s pre-existing (don’t you just HATE that word!)and even if they do cover you private health plans in Australia don’t cover 100% cost like they do here, there is usually a “Gap” payment which can be as much as 40%. Medicare also incurs some costs but they do have a ‘threshold’ whereby once you’ve shelled out a truck load they accept you need help and the rest is free.
Good Luck, don’t give up! if it’s your dream to go you must follow it …
Hi Sue
My husbands parents emigrated to Oz in 2002 having been sponsored by his brother who is married to an Australian and lives in Adelaide. They were 74 when they did it!!! If its your dream to go then do it honey and don’t let cancer stop you from applying - age it appears is not considered a reason not to move from the Aussie point of view if you have a good sponsor.
Their Visa requirements were that even with pre-existing conditions (father in law has macular degeneration and was registered blind here in the UK), so long as they could prove that after buying a house etc that they could financially support themselves for any treatment in the eventuality they got ill in the first 5 years of living out there, then their visa was granted. They now have any treatment under the Australian healthcare system as they have been there for 7 years.
My father in law had a stroke within 6 months of moving there and he also developed atrial fibrillation requiring Warfarin. The bills for his treatment following his CVA, they paid for, and at the time they were quite surprised by how reasonable they thought it was.
As a Midwife - you will have no problems in getting a job - Adelaide (South Australia) in particular is desparate for Midwives and it is a great place to live (as soon as I’m well enough we are heading over there for a ‘recuperation’ period) and to see family of course:)
Good luck with it and don’t think it isn’t achievable - you are a long way off 74!!!
Best wishes Leigh xx
