Hello, I hope that this is posted in the correct place, apologies if it should be moved.
I searched the archives, but couldn’t find an answer to my question.
I have just started a course of whole head radiotherapy, where I have been told that I will lose my hair again! To make me feel better, I treated myself to a new wig This got me thinking, as I have 3 wigs already from when I had my chemotherapy. They are in excellent condition as I didn’t wear a wig every day, and in fact one of them has only been worn twice. I bought them privately and they were quite expensive, so I thought it might be an idea to donate them so that someone else could take advantage rather than they just sit in a box unused.
Does anyone know of any organisations or schemes that do this? When I Googled, I only found things in America…
I would love to pay a little bit forward.
Thanks in advance
X
I found this website when I was trawling the internet following my diagnosis.
wigbank.com/
I haven’t contacted them as I have since found out I get a free wig for my chemo. May be theycan help!
Hi Opal
Pleased you started this one. I have 2 super wigs that i never wore and like you would like to donate them. I asked my bcn but she didn’t know so lets hop someone on her can help.
Good luck with the radiotherapy.

Hi, I have one that is really nice but I never wore it as I had the cold cap which worked, it would be great to donate it. Elainex
Me too, brought a lovely highlighted wig but never wore it still in box as I felt more comfortable with scarves and bandannas , be great if we could donate our wigs I will watch closely

Hi
I also have some prophesis (hardly worn as I found them uncomfortable) and a couple of wigs.
I also have some bras which are in very good condition as yet again I bought them wore them a couple of times and they were uncomfortable too.
thought I had read some where there are countries who do not have NHS but have to make do with what they can get.
I wouldnt mind helping to organise etc but would need to know where to send them

Thank you all. I will check that link from JEW and report back. It looks like there may be some take up for this, so if that is a no go, I will see if I can identify anything else we can do.
It seems a shame for people to have things that are not used by them for whatever reason, but that may be able to easily benefit somebody else.

Hi there,
I have put below the link to BCC’s publication ‘A confident choice’ in which suggests 2 charities for prosthesis donation.
I hope you find this helpful.
Kind regards,
