I have had 2 large benign lumps removed about 4 years ago.
My Consultant is a bit evasive about my signs/symptoms? I am easily confused.
My Grandmother died of bc also my mother and my aunt [maternal].
The Consultant says that its of no consequence that they have died of bc, that they would have had to be Jewish and of a certain type for it to be genetic? they were jewish that surprised him, though he didnt say anything so I am not sure what he means.
I do not have to see him again until august yet over the last few months I have been plagued with large lumps and very painful breasts [mainly on the r/side] also discharge, swelling under my arms that are like long pieces of string.
I am scared to go back to see him for many reasons, one he makes me feel about 2 years old and stupid.
What should I think, I dont want to look silly but I truely am so scared, what could these lumps be.
I know you may all say see the doctor but I want to get my facts straight first.
Hi trasieangel
It sounds like you’re having a pretty difficult and worrying time at the moment. I am sure you will soon receive some supportive replies from the other users on this site.
In the mean time please don’t hesitate to call our helpline and talk through your worries and concerns with one of our trained members of staff. Here you can talk in confidence to someone who is either a breast cancer nurse or has experience of breast care issues. hi there
i am so sorry to hear that you are feeling so desperate - but you do need to go and see your doctor - can’t you take someone with you who will support what you are saying and help to backup your fears - some times we need some one with us because when fear sets in we seem to loose control of our thoughts - i take my sister with me - write down what you want to say and give your friend a copy too - what you are going through must be awful and i would want some answers as i am sure every one would - i am waitng for the results from my core biopsy which i had on thursday and i am finding this waiting game is just awful - be strong and go for it - try to get some sleep and ring the doctor first thing in the morning - i will be looking out for your posting saying that you have seen your doctor
take care
big hugs
lawrie
Hi Trasieangel
I would definately go to my doctors and ask for a second opinion, maybe they could book you in with another consultant, its no good to you if you do not trust your consultant and it seems to be that he belittles you somewhat, if you see a different consultant and he says the same things at least then you know for sure.
Good Luck
Yvonne xx
Hi Trasiangel
I’m sorry to hear that your consultant is being so dismissive of your concerns and your family’s history of breast cancer. I agree with the others that you should ask your GP to refer you elsewhere. If your family are of Eastern European Jewish origin (Ashkenazi) then you need to mention it to your GP and your new consultant as it might be relevant. I found that they got their finger out when I mentioned that my grandmother was a Hungarian jew and I was immediately offered genetic counselling and testing (which was negative and a huge relief).
Good luck
Jxx
Thank You all so much, I am going to make an appointment to see my GP this am,
Thank you Joolzie, for clearing up the Ashkenazi bit, Im unsure about where my maternal line come from, my mother was very secretive about her roots.
You have all empowered me and after reading posts on this site I need to take control, a heartfelt thank you for the wonderful things you do.
I am sick with fear but know I need to confront that fear.
Bless you all.
I went to see the doctor this morning and had to go and see my consultant this afternoon, he was very concerned!! and actually spoke to me!!!.
I had a mamagram, an ultrasound and then they put a needle in two lumps in my right breast, [he said he will do the other one next time he see’s me] one lump was soft the other was so hard and it took ages for him to get a sample
He said he would let me know asap, but now I just want to run away…
Hi Trasieangel
Well done, im so glad you have sorted this out. I know its very scarey we have all been there. Im sure your new consultant will make sure you get the treatment you deserve, hopefully you wont have to wait too long. You have done the right thing, just hang in there, fingers crossed you will get good news.
Let us know how you get on
Take Care

Was just reading through this thread, and so relieved when I got to the end that you had actually been able, very quickly, to see a consultant and be investigated. I am sure we all understand that feeling of wanting to run away, but as you know, the fear of thinking something is wrong and not knowing where to get help is just as bad! Please let us know when the results come through, and one thing you can be sure of is that you can always run in the direction of this site and get lots of support, advice and care from people who understand just what you are going through. The very best of luck. Sarah xx
I think it is appalling that these consultants make us feel two years old and that we are stupid if we go to them. You have a family history of breast cancer - how can he be so dismissive? If he was in your position I would imagine he would be shitting a brick. And what a racist attitude too, can’t he believe someone can be jewish and not look it in his mind#
I have a jewish friend who is blue eyed and red headed and comes from tasmania. Her father was from the netherlands. there’s many jewish people around who don’t fit the stereotype
