Double mx with immediate diep flap recon

Hi
I have been listed for the above prophylactic surgery at Wythenshaw hospital I have a choice of plastic surgeons and just wondered what experiences anyone may of had good or bad?
Also wondering how many would have nipple sparing given that it is leaving more tissue behind?
Finding it hard to make a decision whether to spare the nipples or not?
I also wondered if when having skin sparing diep if your boobs are basically the same size as they are originally or if you can decide to reduce the size.
Feeling overwhelmed to say the least but grateful that I have the chance to do something before this wretched disease comes for me as it has so many others I know and love.
Thanks in anticipation of any replies x

Hi

I’ll PM, you, but generally Wythenshawe has a good reputation,  C

Sorry to be a dope where do I find my personal messages? I only joined today

I just read when u are new that you may not get pm service straight Away

Ah, that might be why we are not getting any where…

So I’ll wait a few days and try again. But in general maybe make a list of all your questions and ask the Breast Care Nurse. I’ve found that they are really good and understand that maybe you ask one lot of questions then need to come back with more. They seem to see that as part of the process and really do want to you to have all the information you need so you can make the very best decision.

My experience is that the nurses and surgeons want to do what they can to get the best result for you, so ask them about the reconstructions being smaller if that is what you want, I don’t think it matters to them as long as it is technically possible.

My nipple couldn’t be conserved because the DCIS was moving in that direction. There is another woman posting at the moment, I think it’s lizred,   about problems of conserving her nipple.

So, good to meet you, though in a place none of us want to be, I hope you find this forum helpful and also comforting. Caroluna

Thanks Caroluna will keep checking to see if I get the pm envelope?
Thanks for the reply and I hope that you are doing well! I feel a fraud being on this site really when I havnt actually got bc but it’s such a good site for info!

Hi both,

Toothfairy should now have the private messages feature.

This should mean that you should be able to see the envelope in the top right hand side of the screen. We usually wait for new users to post their first few posts before enabling this feature, this is to avoid spam messages.

I hope this helps :)

If you have any questions you can contact us at Moderator@breastcancercare.org.uk.

Best wishes,
