Dressing removal day

Like someone else mentioned I removed the sticky residue of the dressing which was causing a lot of itching . I used jojoba oil as I had it and it’s hypoallergenic but would have used my argan hair oil product if I hadn’t had that .

Talk to your breast nurses, they should supply a cushion & dressings and check for infection

@JoanneN and @casey4jc I looked it up. Is aluminium in antiperspirant dangerous? No!

Aluminium in deoderant isnt likely to be a problem, but of course people might be feeling cautious or would prefer to use more plant based products.

I’ve read in other threads and stuff that it’s best to avoid aluminium in deodorant / anti - perspirants as it’s possibly slightly carcinogenic when absorbed into the skin. Also that if you’re going to use one with aluminium in it’s better to use a roll on or stick than a spray and don’t put it on straight after hair removal. Sorry the thread was quite a few months ago - I contributed a few times but the info was provided by another user. Nobody on the radiotherapy team mentioned anything about it apart from not being able to wear any deo when going for treatments - though I did put Dove on after.

I found that sonce rads my armpit has been sensitive and itchy - I tried a natural deodorant which made it worse . I tried Bionsen which is aluminium free but didn’t particularly like it . Went back to the ordinary ones for a while and found that Sure just didn’t seem to work anymore - smelly pits even before the day was done . Dove is still fine but I’m now using Sanex aluminium free stick - and I’m fine with that too. I shave my armpits at night ( but less frequently ) then put on deo in a morning - if I put it on straight away my armpit itches .

Hi @JoanneN. Really useful to know all this. Even though I am using roll on with aluminium in currently it is definitely interesting to know debate and also bear it all in mind for how skin changes after rads. I have rads next and I already have super sensitive skin, so dont want to aggravate it any further. Thanks again for advice and help x
