Drinking Alcohol
Drinking Alcohol Hi
My oncologist has said that I should eat a low fat diet and excercise regularly which I do.
However, can anyone tell me what the situation is with alcohol, I must admit I don’t drink through the week (unless something out of the ordinary happens!) but I do like a drink on a Satuday night. I am 36 years old and enjoy socialising with my friends and family. I can drink a bottle of wine or maybe a bottle and half on some occasions and wonder if this is a thing I need to change.
I obviously never want the cancer to return but at the same time are bursting to enjoy my life to the full!
I also appreciate things so much more now and don’t seem to get too caught up in the stress that life throws at you, I guess it’s made me realise that whatever is thrown at me at least I’m here watching my kids growing upe etc.
Anyway i have started to rant on a bit, the real question is what do you think about alcohol is okay or is it a big no no.

Diane since happiness is always good medicine you’re not supposed to be lying on a bed of nails just because you’ve had/got br ca.
Do nothing to excess and everything which you enjoy!
best wishes for maxiing the pleasure, dilly
so what Hi Diane
Alcohol has kept me going since Jan 2003, I have a wine and soda to hand as we speak, don’t you think we have to have something to help us just a little? Don’t feel guilty.

I have a friend who is an oncologist and I spoke to him about a few things a few weeks ago. He said they know there is a link between BC and alcohol, also BC and obesity. However, I think it’s do do with women who drink large amounts of alcohol regularly and is to do with hormones. Quite often when women drink a lot they put on weight, therefore they produce more oestrogen.
I liked wine, but gave up last October when I found out about having BC as a precaution. TBH, the chemo turned me off it anyway, on account of all the weird tastes in my mouth. I was on holiday last week in the Lake District and had a few glasses which I enjoyed, but I’m back on chemo again this week so am cutting it out completely again.
Hi, like you I’m hormone neg and I’m sure I read somewhere that alcohol does contribute in hormone related tumours but has little effect on horm neg ones.and that red wine in moderation helps keep it at bay for both types. When chooseing wine make sure it’s been oak aged…and preferably organic…cheers!
Go girl Diane
You spend 90% of the week eating low fat and exercising, youve just beant BC, so go an enjoy yourself, im 36 to and im having a glass of wine, as soon as im healed from my op i intend to celebrate with family and friends as its a bloody horrid time having chemo and all the worry and stress, we both know that life is to short for you to be good 100% of the time plus it would make you miserable, now thats not good for your health.
Get out there and celebrate.

Thanks Hi Everybody
Thanks very much for all your replies, I guess I was just a bit concerned that I was being irresponsible. I won’t give it anymore thought, life is for the living after all.
