Driving after biopsy?

I have breast clinic assessment appointment on Friday. I’m going alone and had planned on driving there and back. If I need a biopsy which I think I will from reading everyone’s experiences here, will I be OK to drive afterwards? It’s a 20 minute drive. I’m new to all of this - never had any breast issues before.

Yes, I drove back home no problem after my biopsy. You will probably have local anaesthetic, and a dressing. It was a bit sore after the anaesthetic wore off (think like going to the dentist!) However, you might be emotionally a bit shaky, especially if they tell you things you weren’t expecting. That is probably more of a reason not to drive!

I recommend going for a coffee and a quiet few minutes to process things before driving home!

You will be absolutely fine. I had a biopsy and also had a vacuum biopsy. No problems at all. Good luck

Thank you,

My mind keeps changing between one day thinking it’ll be bad news to thinking it’ll be fine. I stupidly hadn’t even thought it could be cancer until I read the referral on my NHS app.

Can’t help you out regarding driving but wanted to say good luck for Friday xx

I hope your appointment goes well on Friday. Regarding driving, please check your car insurance. Some insurance companies say that you mustn’t drive after a local anaesthetic.

I was fine after my ultrasound assisted biopsy, but then I needed a mammogram (tomography) assisted biopsy on a later date and I fainted during that one so someone had to come and pick me up

It would only be a standard biopsy on the first appointment wouldn’t it?

I’m over 40 with a hard, mobile lump…

Yes, a standard biopsy but they’ll give a local anaesthetic
