I have always had someone take me to my chemo appointments as normally feel really tired and queasy
Now i am almost at the end of chemo i am beginning to think about my radiotherphy treatment
I will be going to Southampton which is about a 30-45 min drive away
I am having rads to my breast, armpit, neck and hip
Will I be able to drive myself to rads or should i get someone to drive me? i am having 30 sessions
Just wanted advice for anyone who has had rads
Jools
Hi Jools
I had 25 rad sessions for breast only. I had to drive 45 mins each way and it was fine. It always seemed such a long journey for a few minutes zapping, so I made sure I had somewhere nice to stop off on the way home - a little retail therapy is always good for you. Occasionally a friend took me, but most of the time I drove, sometimes taking a pal for the company.
Good luck with the rest of your treatment.
Cheers

I’ve just started rads this week, and I’ve been asking all those people who have said “If there’s anything I can do” if they can take me just once. I too have a 45 minute journey. Happy to say that everyone I have asked so far has signed up for a day. Its a great chance to catch up with lots of different people.
Jane
I did the same as you Jane. I didn’t really fancy the drive - 50 minutes each way so I organised a little team of friends and neighbours to drive me there. I found that everyone was really pleased to help and I quite enjoyed the journeys as it gave us a chance to chat. I started to feel very tired while I was having rads and I got very sore as well so I was glad not to be driving myself.
Take care Jane and Jools and I hope it goes well.
