Hey everyone!
Had my first round of EC on Friday 24th April andI have the tiniest little mouth ulcer just on the inside of my upper lip.
Does anyone have any tips of how to get out ahead of this to stop it becoming the biggest mouth ulcer in the world?
Thank you in advance and I hope you’re all doing well. x
Hi @mssteel
Not directly connected to treatment, but it may mean we are more susceptible….
I had 100s of mouth ulcers as a child. As an adult I found out they had been sugar induced.
If I eat any sugar sweet, thats it, an ulcer appears.
Bonjella (spelling may be wrong) helped alot directly on the ulcer. But I would check with your Team if this is safe to use during chemo. Someone mentioned being prescribed a special mouthwash when having chemo.
I also rinse with mild salt mouthwash. Tiny bit of salt in a cup of warm water.
I stay away from anything sugary. (Try to,
) Saying that, today I had a Double Decker for a treat. Silly me, I now have a sore mouth !!!
.
Obviously chemo affects us from within, so treatment may be trickier. But if there is a chance something helps, its worth considering.
I feel your pain. Ulcers are awful. Xx
.
. As if you havent got enough to cope with. Xxx

I had quite a lot of mouth ulcers during chemo, and sore gums too. I was prescribed a mouth wash which definitely helped, though I couldn’t keep it in my mouth for long as it felt it was burning. I also avoided ‘hard’ food eg. crackers, crisps etc. I also swirled the toothpaste around my mouth after cleaning, spat out and didn’t rinse. The dentist prescribed a high fluoride toothpaste. As soon as I stopped chemo the ulcers went. I have had some ulcers since I’ve been on Abemaciclib but I just use a Colgate mouthwash and that seems to do the trick.

I used pineapple to keep my mouth healthy during chemo. Evidently it has an enzyme which prompted mouth health. I put the pineapple in food processor then frozen the pulp in ice cube tray. Could then suck on the cubes throughout the day. Also helps with metallic taste in mouth. Might be too acidic and cause pain whilst you have the ulcer but maybe worth a try if it clears up.

Thank you so much for the tips everyone.
This has amazingly reduced to almost nothing overnight without me doing anything. Talk about a problem shared!
