elbow sore in sleeve - any tips?

Hi all… I’ve got lymphoedema following rads… and been given a compression sleeve to wear “when I do something” (mind boggles!) Anyway, yesterday and today, after a few hours the inside of my elbow is sore (in the crease)… any bright ideas/experience to share? Sleeping with my arm on a pillow (which is on me) is jolly hot at the moment!! I LONG to sleep on my bad side… why is it that when we’re told we shouldn’t do something, it’s the one thing we want to do? (that was probably a rhetorical question!) Jane

Hi Jane

I also have mild LD and my understanding is that the sleeve should be tight but not uncomfortable. Sometimes it is trial and error to get a sleeve which does the required job but is not uncomfortable. Maybe you could give your LD nurse a ring and ask her to check the fit.

I have problems with mine where I have a sleeve and mitten combined. The crease between my hand and thumb gets very sore but I overcome that with minor padding. Don’t suffer, ask

Let us know what they say

A bit of Vaseline on before the sleeve will help but you may need to get the fit checked

HI Jane,

I had a sleeve made and they put a silk lining in at the elbow crease. Don’t know if this can be done for you but worth asking your LD nurse.

Thanks for your replies ladies…

wooo! Posh Emmbee! I’m HOPING this is temporary - LD nurse sees it as preventative at this stage… But if it’s not, I’ll be asking about the silk! How does that work with the stretchiness?

Vaseline - sounds like a good idea, but doesn’t that make the sleeve go yuckky?

She was very pleased with the fit… I’m going away for a few days, so won’t be “doing things” so much and hopefully won’t need to wear it so much - that’ll help too I guess.

Thanks again, Jane

Hi Jane,

Nothing posh about my sleeve as I did not pay for it. The normal sleeves irritate me so much that I cannot wear them. My LD physio suggested the made to measure sleeve. I said that it would be a waste of money if I could not wear it. She replied that they cost no more that a Prescription for good antibiotics. I guess the lining just moved with the sleeve and being silk did not irritate.

I don’t wear a sleeve unless I am flying so have to religiously do my exercises and use an exercise ball I got from Lymphoedema Support Network.

It is a while since I used it but it washed fine and I don’t remember it being a problem.it was because the sleeve wasn’t the best fit but i now have new ones which are much better.
