Emotional Freedom Techique (EFT)

Hi

Has anyone had any experience of EFT. My brother and sister in law swear that it has cured their back back and carpal tunnel problems.

It sounds a bit like mumbo jumbo but they aren’t fanciful people and I’m wondering if anyone else can tell me if it has benefited them and how?

Many thanks

Jan

Hi Jan

I went on a one day workshop for EFT, I wanted to see what effect it had on weightloss if any. I think it is very effective if you can get the affirmations right to start with, you generally just tap certain pressure points and repeat positive affirmations. There is a lot of stuff on the web about it and the guy who first started to get really great results is called Gary Craig, look it up, you can download most of the stuff for free and look at how it works.

Not used it that much myself, but I think if you keep at it then it does have benefits, I think it would be really usefull if you were needing to feel calm about certain situations, and perhaps be help you be more positive.

Hope that helps!
Dena

Hi Dena

Yes it does help. The whole thing sounds a bit strange but there again I suppose many of the therapies and treatments we accept as normal today must have sounded strange first off.

I’ll have a look on the internet. Thanks for the info about the person who started it, that will make it easier to find.

I’ll have a go - try anything once. You never know it might be just what I need. If not I haven’t lost anything.

Thank you for replying,

Love to you

Hi Jan

I’ve used EFT and TFT on myself and clients. Thought Field Therapy was started by Roger Callahan. Gary Graig was a student of Roger Callahan, Gary made some changes adding the affirmations in. TFT taps on different area’s of the body for different problems whereas EFT taps on all the areas using affirmations.
Roger Callahan’s book is available from Amazon for about £3.50 and is called Tapping the Healer Within. I’ve seen different results using the techniques, from good to amazing. There is alot of discussion on why the technique works (I have my own thoughts!).
It’s quick and cheap (if doing it for yourself)and definately worth a go.
Paul McKenna who I trained with, using TFT alot. If you want any help using the technique post me privately.

Hi Sue, Thank you so much for you response and the information. I downloaded some EFT information from the internet yesterday and I’ve started reading it.

I hadn’t heard of TFT. Do both techniques work the same way or does one work better than the other for certain problems?

I’ll have a look for the book.

Thank you for your encouragement. I’m certainly going to give it a try.

I very much appreciate your offer of help and will contact you when I have all the information and have investigated further.

I purchased a book on TFT. Used it a little. There is no scientific evidence to suggest it works but there seems to be a fair amount of anecdotal evidence. Does it work or is it that people’s expectations influence the outcome? Who knows, but anything is worth a try. The techniques are certainly very simple if a little strange.
alex

Hi Alex. That’s the question is it people’s expectations? Does it matter? If you feel better then I suppose it doesn’t. As you say it’s worth a try. You say that you used it a little. Did you get any benefit?

Hi
From my experience of using the techiques, they work from causing an interupt in the thought pattern and put something new in usually laughter!. I really didnt expect anything to happen when I first saw TFT used at an NLP group meeting (around 2003)in fact I was sure it was load of rubbish but I gave it a go. The first thing we had to do was think of the ‘problem state’ and scale it on a scale of one to ten. Then we had to think of the problem state while doing the tapping, singing and counting. After doing the first round, we had to rescale then do another round. Nearly everybody’s inital number went down, after two rounds it nearly always goes down from say 8-10 to 2-3.
I’m not a big fan of the techniques but they are useful especially for anxiety. I have used TFT more as its quicker, I taught it my clients so they could have experience of it and have it their ‘toolbox’ if they liked it.

Have fun
Sue

Hi Sue. Your knowledge and experience is very helpful. Thank you for sharing it. There doesn’t seem to be much information about TFT techniques on the internet but there is loads of information about EFT so, for the time being, I’ll go with that.

Now that I’ve come to actually using the technique I can’t identify how a feel which makes doing it a little difficult. There are so many things which have happened to me over the past 2 years I seem to have a mixture of different feelings and emotions. I’ll have to try and put them all under one umbrella so that I can do my affirmation.

Thanks for your help

Hi Jan

There’s lots of video clips of EFT/TFT on U Tube if you want to see someone doing it.
I would work one thing at a time at the start. Take your time and think of something that gives you a feeling you dont like when you think about it.(Don’t forget to scale it) You could do the tapping without a affirmation or if you want to use one you could say ‘Even though I have this feeling …’ The techniques are subjective so just have a go. One thing I forgot to say was -the eye movement part of the technique is quite important, there are therapies today that are just based on the eye movements. When you retest yourself after doing the sequence- look up. When doing the eye movements don’t move your head, keep your head straight just move the eyes.

Hope this helps
Sue

Hi Sue. I looked on youtube and found loads of stuff. I also found some written instructions with the eye movements. I’m feeling better today so I’ll continue with it. I sent you a PM.

Hope you’re OK

hi,

i tried EFT at the haven in london and found it really helped with anxiety issues. for me the key thing was feeling calm about aspects of life that were getting me down and stressing me out.

I am not sure about the ability of EFT to heal but am pretty convinced that the calmer and happier you are the more chance there is of you being able to look after yourself and your physical needs. Give it a go - whats there to loose? x

Hi Lisa. Thank you for your post. It’s good to hear what people’s experiences have been. You’re absolutely right about the calmer and happier you are the better you are able to look after yourself. I’m giving it a good go with an open mind. Yesterday I felt a lot happier whether that’s EFT I don’t know. I’ll carry on as you say there’s nothing to lose.
Love to you
