Hello,
I”m wondering if anybody has had any experience with endoscopic nipple sparing mastectomy with implants?
My surgeon is offering me this as an option and says I’m a good candidate, but I can’t find much information on people’s experiences with this type of surgery.
Some background - I was diagnosed Triple positive, Grade 2, 2.3cm IDC and have nearly finished neo adjuevent chemotherapy. I also have the Chek2 gene and so will most likely be getting a bilateral mastectomy. (Seeing a genetic counsellor next week to discuss) Currently deciding between this option and an aesthetic flat closure.
Any info or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hello,
Going to update here, incase anyone comes looking for more information about this one day!
I had surgery on Tuesday and ended up going with the Bilateral Endoscopic Nipple Sparing Mastectomy + implants. Between when I first posted and my surgery I learnt quite a lot about this procedure.
It is quite common in Asia, but has only recently been performed in Australia (Where I am), I was my surgeon’s 15th endoscopic mastectomy
You have to have quite specific criteria to be a candidate - breasts need to be between an A & C cup and your tumour can’t be near the nipple.
Instead of scars beneath the breasts I have 3cm scars at the side of each breast and they do everything endoscopically. They also blow up your boobs with air once they have removed all the tissue to check the blood flow so they can make sure everything is working well before going direct to implant. (I’m not sure if this is common anyway).
My surgery went well, it took about 3.5 hours, and I stayed one night in hospital. I got to go direct to implant and I have two drains. I also have a pico dressing. I’m not in too much pain, mostly uncomfortable getting in and out of bed, and at the drain site. I’ve managed to be up out of bed and doing some walks each day and am just taking paracetamol.
Hope this is helpful for anyone looking for info on this in the future.
