Hi,
I’m stage 4 cancer with mets in the the liver, lung, spine and skin.
After 12 months taking a variety of chemotherapies my oncologist decided that “my body needed a break”. As a result I’m currently receiving no treatment at all.
I’m to have monthly blood-tests and 3-4 monthly CT scans but they have said that even if the tumour in my lung increases by 50% (okay it’s only 2cm at the moment) they won’t rush me straight back onto chemotherapy
Is this normal? If so, how do you keep from imagining that every ache and pain is the cancer growing? Or is there the possibility that this is a subtle way of telling me there is nothing more they can do for me?
Thanks
Tiny
Hi Tiny
I too have mets in lung, liver, skin and bones and can imagine how vulnerable you must feel without having treatment. I am currently on caelyx but my onc did once say to me that if it wasn’t for my skin mets (which really bother me because they look like a nasty burn from where my bust was to just below my neck, so I am really restricted as to what I can wear and am desperate to see some improvement), that he wouldn’t have me on any chemo at all because the mets aren’t growing much at the mo, so maybe this is why your Onc feels its safe for you not to be on chemo now, I guess we don’t want to use up all of our options too soon.
Hope you feel better for your chemo break.
Good luck
Linda
