enlarged lymph nodes on opposite side

Hi everyone.
I haven’t needed to be around for a while, as my partner’s mastectomy, two years ago now, was straightforward. However, she’s been for her annual check today and they’ve discovered three enlarged nodes in her axilla on the unaffected side.
The consultant seemed very unconcerned about this, despite her admitting that she’d originally noticed them three months ago (first I’d heard of it!!!). At the nurses’s request an ultrasound was done after which she was told: “From your original diagnosis I’d be very surprised if it was anything.” !!!
Now, as an ex-nurse, my understanding is that the only way to be sure of what’s going on is to aspirate some cells. Surely the ultrasound doesn’t show if there is any malignancy?
I’d really appreciate your help ladies, as my partner is a bit casual about her health and will just ignore things.

Hi Ssssy,
Have posted a reply once, but it disappeared!!
in brief, I attended the breast clinic 6 years or so ago and the lump that I had in my left breast was decided by the doc to be of no concerns
He did however have some concerns about the right breast (it was very lumpy) and I had had a fibroadenoma removed some years previously.
I went off to have the usual tests including ultrasound, the technician (radiographer??) noted that I had an enlarged lymph node . I asked her why that should be. I was told most likely an ‘infection’.
I was duly biopsied on the breast because of lumpiness but not the lymph) it came back as ‘normal breast tissue’
Roll on 6 or so years and I have recently had a Mx to that breast and a ANC where cancer was found in that lymph node and 3 others.
I cannot say for sure if the 2 are linked, but I can say I wish that I had been monitored a little more closely and been given a fuller explanation as to why I should have an enlarged lymph node.
Perhaps your partner could ask why hers should be so? Perhaps the BCN can explain? That way you could have peace of mind.

Hey Sassie
My experience??? Go with your intuition and applied logic… Encourage your partner to get it all checked out to the enth degree…
Know what you want and want what you need!!!
Hope it goes well

Thank you both for your response.
On a separate issue, what has happened to this forum since I was last here? I thought at first that my opening post was duplicated, but it seems to be that every time a thread gets a response it gets a listing in latest posts, rather than being condensed under the thread title. What on earth is going on?

Hi Sassie

I’ve copied a section from a post made by Leah back in September which explains about the “Latest replies” section:

We made these changes to the Latest Posts page to solve the following problems:

  • Not all posts were appearing in the list of latest posts, so some people’s questions and requests for support were being missed
  • the latest posts page was very slow and was causing problems for the rest of the site

Splitting the page into “latest replies” and “new threads” has made a big improvement in these two areas.
However, I know that it is still not as easy to use as it should be. I have every intention of making it so there is only one latest post listed per thread. However, we have very limited resources to work on forum development (for financial reasons) and have had to do some strict prioritisation. For example, while we were working on making that change to latest posts, we had some urgent security issues on the site which had to take priority.

Hope this helps a bit

Best wishes

Thanks Janet. It’s a rather confusing way of doing things, imho!
