ER positive

Hi, I’ve been reading a few threads where people are saying that they are “strongly” oestrogen positive. I’m seeing figures like 8/8 or 7/8. What does this mean?? Where are they getting this information from? I was diagnosed with grade 2 ER+ Her2- mixed lobular & ductal invasive carcinoma just before Christmas (so still fairly brand new to all this). Lumpectomy revealed that the tumour was bigger than expected with no clear margins so a mastectomy followed, about 5 weeks ago. The tumour was 5cm+ so I start radiotherapy next week. Clear nodes. My oncotype DX result was low (9) so no chemo, but there’s now talk of “limiting” my ovaries as an added precaution. My ER score on my oncotype DX report was 10.9 positive, what on earth does that mean?? I’ve been on tamoxifen for 11 days with no major side effects so far.

Just trying to understand it all and struggling with some of the abreviations and statistics.

Many thanks in advance. xx

I think they are talking about Zoladex injections which shut down your ovaries chemically whilst you are on the medication,I think it’s given monthly by injection .They sometimes recommend it as an additional way of reducing the amount of oestrogen in your body if you are ER positive and pre menopausal. There area few threads about it if you search under Zoladex. All the best Jill.

Ps no idea about the Onco DX result but ER positive is rated out of 8 indicating how responsive your tumour was to the influence of the oestrogen in your body. The higher the rating the more you will benefit from hormone therapy and other interventions to limit the effects /amount of Oestrogen in your body.

Your BC nurse should have that info ,it will prob be on the letters to your GP too so you could ask GP.If it’s strongly ER positive it’s not necessarily a bad thing just means that you will benefit more than others with a lower rating from the hormone treatments .
