I know it’s a subject that has been covered before, but I happened to mention to my BCC nurse that I was taking E.P and Cod liver and vitamin tablet along with my tamoxifen,
She rang me the next day to say she had spoken to my BS and he had said NO to the evening primrose.
I have read other postings that say they have been advised to take it, but I think while there is a doubt I will leave it out.
Thanks to the person who suggested I take the tamoxifen in the evening, it has made things a lot better.
I have to say that my Onc has actually recommended that I take Eve Prim - he also said I could try Red Clover, Black Cohosh, Star Flower Oil etc. I have oestrogen +ve cancer and am on Zoladex to knock my oestrogen back, but the hot flushes are peaking at 1 every 40 mins, so it’s not much fun! I’m not on Tamoxifen though - you could check with yr surgeon etc to see if this is where they perceive a clash.
I told my onc yest that I don’t want to go on Tamoxifen, as I’ve read too many papers on its’ cancer causing properties re uterine and endometrial cancer, also cataract because it blocks the enzyme pathways that keep your eyes clear from cataracts, not to mention the inevitable weight gain that must surely place stress on the heart and other organs, and asked him if I went the ovarian removal route and diet (no dairy whatsoever and high phytooestrogens and phytoprogesterones) if I could avoid Tam without reducing my survival risk too much, and he was quite positive about it. Doubtless we’ll have more discussions about it nearer the time!
Maybe you could ask them directly ‘why not’ because my onc said as long as it doesnt contain phytoestrogens (which it doesnt) then thats fine.
If you could ask specifcly for the reasons that makes it clearer for us to make our own minds up. They certainly help me with hot flushes, as i dont really notice them and have been on them for over 20 years (for pmt)so unless there was real proof then i would still take them.
