Hi, if you are having no problems with the medication I would just take it. I’ve been prescribed the medication for 10 years so I don’t think it will cause you any harm. Well done for managing the full course.

Ive gIned a lot of weight and pains in my legs but i must admit. Im worried about coming off them x

Hi, I’m on them for 10 years as my cancer was a grade 3 and in 2 lymph nodes. Your cancer is probably not as high risk so 5 years will be the most beneficial for your health. I believe it’s normal to feel some anxiety once medication is complete. Wishing you well and hope you can put this cancer episode behind you.

Hi sandy52

It sounds as though you are coming to the end of your treatment with letrozole after 5 years of treatment. The length of time that someone is recommended to take this drug will vary from 5 to 10 years depending on their individual situation. Like you, many women finish taking it after 5 years. Letrozole will continue to reduce the risk of cancer coming back for many years after treatment finishes. This is known as the carry over effect and may last for five years or longer.

If your final prescription takes you slightly over the 5 years, it is fine to continue taking it until you have finished all the tablets prescribed.
