I lost most of my head hair and quite a lot from down below. I know some women choose to go bare downstairs but I thought it looked horrible and was glad when it grew back! Elsewhere my hair thinned but didn’t disappear entirely so I still needed to shave my armpits. How annoying. I’ve got a couple of moles on my face which sprout coarse black hairs so I was very pleased when they fell out! Sadly they’ve come back thick and strong I lost the little hairs up my nose but my eyebrows and lashes were fine. Strangely, once treatment was over and my head hair started growing my brows and lashes started to break off. Even now they’re a bit sparse and my lashes aren’t as long as they used to be.
We have hairs in our ears and I probably lost them, it’s a bit hard to check. Recently I suffered badly from earwax and had to have my ears syringed. I remember my mum had the same problem after her chemotherapy - I wonder if losing ear hair makes you more prone to waxy buildup?
Well I finished chemo at the end of October. Still no real head hair coming back, or eyelashes and eyebrows. In fact all that is really coming back is the hair on my legs! How unfair is that. But my head is itching so I hope something is happening. Mine was fine but there was a lot of it before all this started. Mnd you, wearling a hat doesn’t look so weird in this cold weather! Still have the runny nose with no nasal hair to catch the drips!
I too was going to buy a new hairdryer for Christmas but think I might wait till my birthday in February. Ho hum!
It’s funny how we’re all so different! I’m on E-CMF, finished 4 epis and second cycle of CMF. I managed to hang on to my top eye-lashes and 1.5(!) eyebrows throughout the epi… and a few stragglers on legs and “down below”! My hair is starting to come back now… I’ve got a very pale, blonde fuzz all over my head now (unfortunately I still looka total baldy from a distance!) and it’s coming back downstairs too (though my partner says it looks like the sort of horrible hairs you find on a plucked chicken!). Anyone else suffering from plucked-chicken syndrome?!
OHHH, so 3 weeks seems to really be the time to wait… :)) OK, I can do that. That is what the doc said too… (but sometimes docs are doing guess work, while here it is real living experience…).
4 AC, 4 Taxol have taken off all of my head hair (oh well, I still have peach fuzz… and the peach fuzz keeps growing, I had to trim it once as I had some yucky long hairs peeking here and there), all of my “down under” stuff (a few stragglers, but I decided to go brazilian - might keep it that way, am thinking), most of legs, all underarms, and alas, Taxol got rid of eyelashes and eyebrows (again, most of it. I have about 7 eyelashes and 20 hair on brows… and use large amount of penciling).
I bought false eyelashes for the holidays… wink wink… they are in fashion now…
Diane,
Good luck with your first CMF. So far I’m finding it a breeze compared to epi - life has been practically back to normal. Hope you do well on it too.
