Hi,
How about walking? I’ve tried to walk every day during chemo - just missed a few days when I’ve felt at my absolute worst. Surprising how making myself go for a walk, when not feeling too good seems to energise you.Walking is simple, free and can be done anywhere and incorporated into your day - to shops , visit friend or whatever.
I know some ladies use a Wii at home.

Good luck whatever you decide.

I had 4 months of severe fatigue and joint pain when I was on Taxotere back in 2007. I found that taking up some basic yoga helped. I have a CD with lying yoga and standing yoga that I got on a course at the local Maggies. The stretching helped me get strong enough for other things. I live by the sea, so found walking a great boon as I could enjoy the views. I recently joined a gym and go 2 mornings a week before work. Not losing weight on it, but my body shape is changing - I have actually put about 8lbs on since I started despite cutting down on things. However, I’ve been assured it’s muscle.

Hi weightwatcher - I am not the most sporty of people and most certainly could not imagine jumping around to exercise. Before dx I did a Pilate’s class every week and really think it helped with the mobility of my arm and shoulder. Started back after treatment finished and just worked at my own pace and mobility is almost back to normal. Also good for your back and joints and toning your tum. Nice and gentle BUT effective. As I am trying to loose the extra weight gained I make my self walk to the post box a couple of times a week (about 15 mins) and wear a pedometer all the time to keep check of steps used per day. Also have the bcc dvd but only done it once so far as I am back at work and get tired.Hope you find something you like. Some fine weather would be nice to make walking more enjoyable!Marli

Ive been using a wii fit the past 6 weeks, and with a sensible diet ive lost 10lb - and im on tamoxifen!!

lolly,
thanks for your post - I am exactly a year out from diagnosis and have put on a stone, so here I go, diet time, your message was encouraging, Nicola

I still struggle with tiredness and I finished treatment in Nov 09! but sometimes not doing anything can make you feel more tired and lethargic and sometimes although you have to force yourself to get off the sofa, you feel better afterwards.

I have a cross trainer at home and use it regularly (ok some weeks more than others) I also have various dvd’s at home and do these when I can fit them in, they are of various lengths and styles so something for every mood. I have even recently been able to do my Davina workout again and I really thought that I would never be able to do it again as my knees are dodgy, but I did it with just a few modifications. I am also considering taking up yoga as I need something other than wine to make me relax.

If you do nothing else I would do as others have said, buy a pedometer and get walking 10,000 steps a day may sound a lot but is quite easily achievable.

I am also on tamoxifen and still managed to lose 19lbs at Weight Watchers last year although I have been struggling a bit since Christmas!

Good Luck, Jo xx

I finished my treatment back in June 2009 and I have been up and down like a yoyo over the last 18months but this month it has finally hit home ( lord knows why it has taken so long) that i need to make some changes. I have put on just over 2 stone since ending chemo and somehow thought it was going to magically melt away. But no its still here , so i have joined SW only last night, I hope to up my excercise from just walking to a swim and some sort of pilates/yoga. Fatigue allowing I also found a workout channel on sky that initially I just watched with a tea and biscuits but gave it a go this morning and quite enjoyed it though i did stand on the dog twice ha ha .I have spent the morning going over the diet literature and though I hate the whole group thing, think I have to accept it does work. All your posts are encouraging and best of luck with it all. Rhi x

Hi I finished my rads end of November and went back to aqua arobic class at beginning of January - it’s a good all body work out but gentle using the water as resistance - I find it really helpful . I haven’t had any adverse skin reaction from the pool water.
