I totally agree, oldandlumpy; the only reason I’m on HRT is that I had a premature menopause at 21 so I was advised to take it for my bones (so nothing downstairs works anyway!!), but I must admit it’s a long time and I’m sure peventative medicine has moved on since then. I’m looking forward to seeing what she has to say tomorrow.
I’m glad you we all go through the same emotions - I was beginning to think I was going mad!
Thanks for being there x
PB,
If you do have anything in there to be discovered - it has to be very small, which is a good thing! They cancelled my excision biopsy on the day it was scheduled - after I’d waited round for the operation since 6:45 am, and late morning they did another core biopsy instead which did find something.
They scheduled the main op and SNB a fortnight or so later so I was in limbo for ages and very moody amd tearful - I think I did a lot of housework and fortunately I work three days a week.
My treatment has been tamoxifen and then after a mini stroke scare I was switched to arimidex. I was very foolhardy and I did not take the offer of radiotherapy. My first mammo after the op was in March and that showed No Evidence of Disease.
On the good side I feel healthier and fitter than for years, I’m walking a lot to help my osteoporosis which I didn’t know about before, I’ve changed my diet and I’ve lost some weight so I am nearly within my correct BMI range.
You are at the worst stage now with the waiting.
hi paulsbabe…your emotions are normal hun, its the fear of the unknown, and the what iffs, and then the waiting for results, i dont think i stopped crying for a week after diagnosis, then i would get strong for a while , then back on my knees in bits… your on the rollercoaster… the ride may be rough at times…HRT 25 years…?? oh dear thats a long time, i had hrt after my hysterectomy for a cupple of years…but i stopped because of the fear of breast cancer…ironic really looking at it now xx
i had an emergancy hysterectomy because of an infection, they left the ovaries. I had a bone scan at the time because we had osteoporisis in the family and we wanted a pre-menopausal base line to work from. 5 years later i had another scan and found I had lost 10%.the checked by blood and said i was now postmenapausal (i did not have any symptoms) The gave me estrgel to slap on my thighs, but my hormone levals did not rise so they prescribed twice as much. I did this for a couple of years with no thoughts of cancer. I was told it was only oral hormones that were a risk. But suddenly after two years, one morning i was about to slap it on and I suddenly did not want to, for no logical reason, so I stopped.
I now have intense ultraviolet stand up shot for 6 minutes once a week to get my skin making vitamin D and last time i had a bone density scan done it had improved so much that I was back to my premenopausal levels.
i love the sun both, and the oncologist has said i can carry on with it but only have 3 minutes till treatment is over
I went to see consultant/surgeon today following a biopsy 2 weeks ago. I have a 1cm lump (a fibroadenoma) but LCIS was also found. The lump is to be removed with a 1cm margine all round, so this would make it 3cm wide/round. So that would indicate to me that the amount to be removed will be roghly three maltesers squashed together (in woman talk). I know I should be grateful that it is not cancer, but am I likely to be left with a dent there. I had the milk ducts removed from my other breast 4 years ago and my nipple has sunk in where the tisssue etc was taken away. Any advice/info would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Hazel
thats smaller than my lump and i dont have a dent, and its a very neat scar. The only thing that i notice is that the nipple is now higher on one side ( i am old with saggy breasts) but only if you stand still and look carefully. The scar from the sential node biopsy under my arm has a dent but that is not noticable because of where it is
my chest not that big (34C) so was just wondering.
Thanks
Hx
My lump was 13mm plus margins, plus a re-excision to get clear margins as they weren’t to start with. I have a slightly flat bit, and the scar is almost invisible (assorted close friends have seen the photographic evidence, my surgeon’s a wonderful woman!). I think it depends on so many things that we wouldn’t be able to tell you for certain. Depending on where the lump is, how your body deals with scarring, etc etc, you might get away with it like I did, or you might have a big dinge - who can tell.
Hi there- who knows how we end up really! Mine was 20mm lump with a little bit of invaisive lobular ‘underneath’- 34B cup. I have very neat glued scar almost invisible-but a dent that is on cleavage side that is noticable-particularly on leaning forward!! but quess like O and Lumpy-not in first flush of youth and things a bit saggy anyway!! Hope yours goes well
