exemestane? anybody had experience of taking it?

Hi All,
Just come back from seeing oncologist for yearly check up- 3 years since Dx. I have had a blood test to see if i am post menapausal,if i am she has advised i can switch from Tamoxifen to an Exemestane. Looking at the info it will probably be Aromasin. Not heard of this before anybody any experience of taking it? especilly side effects??

Hi Delamere

I’ve taken Exemestane (Aromasin). For me, it produced fewer side effects than Tamoxifen and about the same amount as Arimidex. So all in all, not too bad. Have you been OK on Tamoxifen?

One strange thing, tho’. Just before each hot flush, for about 30 seconds or so, I used to get what I would describe as a brief, and mild, panic attack. As I say, it only lasted about 30 secs and as it subsided the hot flush would start.

I’ve not had this with any other hormone therapy that I’ve taken. Another lady here posted some months ago that she experienced the same thing, but as far as I know, we’re the only two who have mentioned it on here.

The main problem i have had with Tamoxifen has been hot flushes plus some gynae probs. I used to have palpitations as well but they seem to have stopped now. Will wait and see outcome of blood test. aparently my onc has been part of the research group looking at Exemestane so he has a lot of knowledge, but then again i don’t think they always tell you about side effects.
