I was diagnosed with BC in 2013 and my tumour was a hormone based one. Since finishing treatment, I have been taking Tamoxifen…with little or not side effects, which is great.
My periods stopped for a while after my chemo finished, so thought I’d gone throught the menopause etc but then in the last year I have been getting random periods - which means there is still oestrogen in my body…which I understand isn’t good as there is a risk the cancer may come back.
So I’ve recently just started Zoladex injections, to help reduce the amount of hormones being produced. Can’t say I enjoy the injections but it’s a necessary evil !!
I am also about to switch my medication to Exemestane and am worried about the side effects it may have, given that I have had no side effects with Tamoxifen. I have heard that it produces joint pain which I’m concerned about as I frequently go running and don’t want this to affect my daily life.
Hiya, I take armidex myself but have made friends with three people on this drug and they have no problems. Two of them are runners and very much like my drug, the more active you are, the fewer side effects. Keep being active … you’ll be fine. People are bound to give you some negatives on here, you know how some people love to post a negative story … but so many women do well.
Keep running xx
Sorry Soi, I genuinely didn’t mean to post that people like to moan, I just meant people who have a bad time are more likely to post than someone having an ok time. Simply because people who are ok don’t really come on too often as don’t think to as they aren’t having problems. I like to drop back in to offer positives where I can and really didn’t mean to cause offense to anyone struggling. Quite true, everyone is different and I have been lucky so far. I just wanted to share positve experiences to show it is possible. I hope things improve for you xx
Thank you for your comments. It’s early days for me at the moment as I’ve only been on Exemestane for a couple of weeks. Apparently the achyness kicks in after around 3 months or so of taking it. So watch this space !
I’m managing to eat ok with it, so, so far so good.
I couldn’t believe how tiny the tablets were. After taking Tamoxifen they were postiively miniscule ! How can such a small pill give such side effects !
