Exercise classes

Hello

Does anyone know of some cheap exercise classes in the Harrow area? Perhaps pilates or similar? Few months on since mastectomy and aches in body arms legs and back. On hormone tablets wondered if anyone else has similar problems?

Hi
Yes, I had my masectomy late September and have shoulder, arm and back ache. I’ve just started going to zumba gold which is designed for people just starting out on their journey to fitness or for the more mature adult (think I fit into both of those categories!). I get it free as my daughter’s the instructor but there’s a couple of other ladies who go that have gone through the same experience as me. I live in the midlands but there’s sure to be zumba gold classes in your area. These will be listed on the Zumba website.

I’m nowhere near you but have just started Nordic walking - the one where people walk with poles and look like they’ve forgotten their skis or the snow - and found it fab. It exercises so many muscles but without strain and you do get a workout without realising it. Have a look on the website nordicwalking.co.uk for lots of info about it (there is a technique), tasting sessions and competence classes, plus details of instructors in your area. I did have a go at zumba but my co-ordiantion after chemo, albeit 4 yrs ago, is awful and although it was ok, it just didn’t do it for me.

Honestly, I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying it. Mind you, I am so lucky to live by the sea with a flat promenade 20 yards from my front door…so much easier to nip out for even 15-20 mins than have to make the effort to go to the gym etc…
