Anybody here had their expander fail? Had a single mastectomy in early August with expander. I then had a seroma, so expansion started a little later. However I never felt my breast was getting larger as expected - I also could feel a hard ridge across my breast. Had an MRI too last week (instead of mammogram) I was told the expander would be ok, as it was compatible with MRI scans. However my breast is now really not full and is dis-formed, my consultant didn’t fill it up this week and said she would wait for the MRI results so she could see the expander as we both agreed it looks like its not keeping its fill and is possibly leaking or ruptured. She said it rarely happens unless the breast has had trauma or over exertion. I have been so careful and done everything exactly as asked. I am so fed up and teary - would I need a op to take it out quickly? - would that have to be over the Christmas period? It would be great to hear of others who needed to have an expander changed or taken out.
