Expensive travel insurance

Hi everyone, sorry this isn’t a medical question but I need some help!

I have just had chemo number 5 and have 1 more chemo and six weeks of radiotherapy to go. I have booked a holiday in France in August to visit an old friend as a treat and don’t want to be stitched up with travel insurance, I don’t see that any of us are more of a risk than the majority of the population. When I fly, apart from Tamoxifen I won’t be on any meds so why was I quoted £98 for a weeks insurance, they wouldn’t offer annual.

Does anyone know of a company that is good?

None of us asked for this crap to happen to us and I don’t see why some companies should take advantage of us.

Keep smiling and positive everyone

Fifi

Hi Fifi,

I have just phoned a company in Southend, Essex called Mia Online Ltd. their telephone number is 01268 783383 and I spoke to a lovely lady called Sandy. I explained my position (3rd lot of chemo just started on Taxol every three weeks one weeks break etc…etc…). She said there would be no problem insuring me but to get at least two cycles out of the way to make your everything going okay, which is obviously the safest route. The only thing that she needed was my my consultant to put on my medical notes “suitable to travel” and she would only need to see this if there was a claim. She quoted me £39.50 for 8 days insurance and 17days for £44.50 which I thought was pretty good all things considered. She also said where would I be travelling… which would be mainland Spain… Malaga and she said fine the countries she would recommend would be Spain, Portugal, Majorca, France (so you will be fine!) and that is about all cos the hospitals outside of this are not good. She mentioned the Canary Islands (not good, which I was surprised at) Turkey, Greece, Egypt. So I believe she was saying if I wanted to go to these places she would not insure me while going through chemo etc. which obviously makes sense.

Hope this helps.

Take care, have a great holiday.

Love Debsx
