?experiences with implants

I am contemplating implants soon. My surgeon said it can be done as a single step procedure without need to go for expansion. I just wonder if someone can advice me regarding their personal experiences. My surgeon said its least traumatic to the body.

Hello Neelima,
There don’t seem to be a lot of ladies in this forum who have had implants without expansion, but I am one. I wrote three days ago to Lotty under the subject heading “Type of reconstruction”, and on April 17th 2007 I wrote an email under “Help in choosing”. You might like to check those out and if you have any questions arising do let me know. I don’t regret my decision for one moment! Best wishes, petitepart

Hi

I had implants without expansion nearly 7 months ago - I had fixed volume silicone implants placed under my chest muscle so I didn’t need any expansion and there’s no need for surgery to swap the implants over. However, this type of reconstruction is normally only recommended for small busted women so as to avoid rupturing the chest wall.

Compared to implant only reconstruction using expanders…
The pros are:
-no need to go in for expander fills after the op
-no need to have “exchange surgery” to swap the expanders over to permenant implants
-operation is done all in one go so recovery time is shorter
-lower risk of infection because you don’t have to be opened up again for further surgery

The cons are:
-you may not end up the right bra size (this has happened to me!)
-the initial recovery process is a little longer as the chest wall settles down over the implants
-you may need corrective surgery if you’re not happy with the results

Personally I am really pleased that I had fixed volume implants even if they are a little larger than I expected. It meant I could get straight on with my life once I was healed up and I haven’t had to have further surgery. Hope that helps

Hi Neelima - I have got a fixed silicone implant which doesn’t need to be replaced but does have a saline pocket in the middle which has a port which can be filled up or deflated before the port is removed. I am waiting for other breast to be done before having port removed so that I can be as symmetrical as possible.Looks good so far and benefits are that once swelling goes down after surgery you can be pumped up a bit if saggy!!
