Hi, I went to gp on Tuesday as I have large lump/thickening area in my right breast. She sent off urgent referral for breast clinic and today I got a letter informing me that I have ultrasound scan and poss mammogram this coming Thursday. I am trying to stay positive but it is very difficult - not knowing is literally driving me insane. The letter states that my scan is Thursday but says my appt for specialist is October?? Can this be right, surely they are not expecting me to wait until October to speak to someone for results - I am on the verge of completely losing it as it is. I have two little girls and it takes all my strength not to cry each time I look at them.
Hiya, I sincerely hope they won’t be making you wait until October for any results! They aim to give you an answer on the day at the breast clinic and if you need any biopsies the results are a week or so later, how they can make you an appointment with a specialist yet I don’t know when you haven’t been diagnosed with anything! I wouldn’t worry yourself about it as you can clarify it all on Thursday, just get yourself checked out and take things from there, I know how hard it is and how easy your brain will run away with you but you really need to just deal with what is happening right now and nothing beyond until you know for certain you have to, there will be plenty of support her for you whenever you need it Xx Jo
hi snuffler,
This part of investigations & waiting for results, is always the pits, but you will get through it. You’ve done the most important thing in getting it checked out & the referral in place.
As jobey says, the usual process is mammogram, ultrasound followed by a needle biopsy if its still not clear what the issue is. Normally, you have an appointment for the biopsy results 1-2 weeks later. The October appointment could be an admin error, I got an outpatients appointment for rheumatology!
Anyway, it will all be clarified on Thursday & you’re in the right place to get it sorted.
Let us know how you get on.

Wishing you all the best of luck with your scans and results. I feel for you looking at your girls, I also have two young daughters (they’re 3 and half year old twins) and after a massive episode of one nipple itching last week, I’ve just discovered what looks like a wart/ growth on it. Im seeing the GP tomorrow but am truly worried. My girls are my world and I can’t bear to think about what we might all be about to endure. Stay strong and I truly hope you - and everyone else reading this - have nothing to worry about.
