Hi there
I hope this is the right place to post this question as I have not used the site before?
I am worried about my sister, she is 50 years old and was diagnosed with BC at age 40 she had a 13mm lump and 1 lymph node involved, she was told that it was stage 2 grade 3 she had cmf chemo radiotherapy and tamoxifen for 5 years and now takes femara. She has had no reoccurrences to date but she has latley been very tired had recurrent urine infections and now has a problem with her eye, she went to the optician who sent her straight to the hospital but when she got there she only saw a junior doctor who did not know what was wrong and gave her strong antibiotics. These have done nothing and her sight is very poor now (blurred) and getting worse, she has another appointment at the hospital on thursday but I am concerned because it is a differnt hospital to where she was treated and she has not dared to tell them about her BC!! Does anyone have any idea if BC can spread to the eye or if you think these symptoms seem sinister. Sorry for the long history and to bother people with this query but i am concerned about her as she buries her head in the sand.
Hi, and welcome to the Breast Cancer Care discussion forums where you’ve come to the right place for support.
Could I suggest that you give our helpline a ring and have a chat with one of the breast care nurses here? Calls to the helpline are free, 0808 800 6000 lines open Mon - Fri 9am - 5pm and Sat 9am - 2pm.
Hope this helps. Kind regards,

Hi sisterlylove,
How worrying for you and your sister, and I think a bit foolish of her not to mention she has breastcancer. There have been a few members on here over the past year who have had secondaries spread to the eye, and I believe it was quite treatable. But your sister is wasting valuable time by not letting them know. It could be all sorts of things but because she has bc this must be investigated. Would you be able to go with her to her Thursday appointment?

Hi Dawn
Thanks for the quick reply
Unfortunately i am going on holiday on wednesday so can’t go with her! She hardly ever goes to the doctor and when she does she wants to be in and out incase they mention further tests for anything!!!
Do you think the urine infections could be linked to BC?

Has she had tests for other conditons such as diabetes? That can cause blurred vision, urine infections and certainly make her tired. Also, problems with the thyroid can cause similar problems. She must mention her BC as it is essential for the doctors to know exactly what the medical history is. I can understand why she wants to forget about it, but it isn’t going to make any difference to her diagnosis.
Hi Cathy
Thanks for the reply, no she has had no other tests but I have told her to tell them about her BC when she goes.
