Hi Girls
My sister, cousin and myself have all been diagnosed with breast cancer, I have completed the history of my family and the Genetics clinic have come back and said that there is only a moderate chance my daughter and nieces will also get breast cancer, I am really worried for my daughter and my nieces and wonder how the Genetics team can come up with only a moderate risk, when three from the same generation have now been diagnosed.

Hi Heatherellis
I think they look into what age the ladies are when diagnosed with bc. Sorry can I ask how old you and your cousin and sister are?
I got contacted by genetics and was considered high risk after my sister got diagnosed with bc at 33 and died at 35. The only other member of the family was my dad’s sister who got ovarian cancer in her early forties and died before 50. My sister got tested and was brac1 positive with another gene irregularity that they weren’t sure what it was and I found out I am also brac1.It has been passed down from my dad’s side of the family.
I think that you should get tested for brac1 or 2 and if that comes back positive then they would get tested. Sometimes they find irregularities but they aren’t brac1 or 2 and aren’t sure what they are.
Don’t let them fob you off but it may be that noone has been diagnosed at a young age and that is why they are only moderate risk.
Best wishes
