I’m not anti-royal, but I feel the amount being spent on it is disgraceful, when cancer patients are refused funding for treatment that costs just a few thousand pounds.
Sat with a weeping mum on Sunday - she was crying because she has been refused funding for SIRT ( her five year old son has a non-operable brain tumour).
How is is we have limitless money for Royal Weddings, tax breaks for bankers, and fighting pointless wars, but not enough to save a little boy?
What can I say? It’s appalling.
Cheryl
With you on that one, LG. Even if it wasn’t costing us a penny I’d be fed up with it!
feel totally appalled. how very sad x
It’s very sad about that little boy, but you could say, no space race, how about let’s stop the olympics, I personally don’t like sport, but I know others do. Unfortunately we can’t help everyone, and if they cancelled the wedding the olympics and the space programme, the money still wouldn’t be put into funding projects for cancer.
I personally am looking forward to the wedding, it’s lovely to see the country celebrating something together, a feel good factor.

While the story about the little boy is extremely sad, I love the pomp and pageantry of Royal Weddings, Olympics, cultural events etc.
It is events such as these that help create community and national pride, which make many people happy, helps generate well being, not to mention generate huge amounts for the economy which can then be spent on the NHS.
We have a choice: moan and be grumpy or enjoy the spectacle of grandeur and of two lovely young people very much in love.
Lemongrove, totally agree with you, sick of it already.
Newspapers and TV are full of it all the time and it’s not even Friday yet!!!
There are many more worthy things to spend tax payers money on.
Isabelle.
oooOOOooo, I predict another topic with widely opposing views!
I admit to being a grumpy moo. I worked on the day of his mother’s wedding and just caught glimpses of it, but even that was more than enough. I just wish we didn’t get the “the whole country’s really looking forward to the wedding” nonsense on every radio or television station. NO WE’RE NOT! SOME of us really don’t care all that much about the wedding. Yeah, it’s great for them, and it’s a party, but enough already with all the media nonsense please!
(And I hate Christmas too, bah humbug.)

Hi
I do think it is appalling about the little boy not getting the treatment he needs.
I am however looking forward to watching all the pomp and ceremony re the royal wedding I am a fan of the royal family and do think they are good for the country. I do admit it is an obscene amount of money being spent!!! But I for one will be celebrating in style se’s allowing!!!
The wedding is bringing in far more than its taking out with tourism and manufacturing etc etc. I understand what you are saying but sometimes the country needs the feel good factor which can bring further good effects.
I can take another view and no offence meant but what about IVF thats not life threatening and the money spent on that could go to life saving treatment.
Look at the money being spent in battles for Lybia all over oil.
Look at the money being given to Portugal by us.
Look at the money that bailed out the Irish banks by us.
This list goes on.
There is life beyond and with cancer and sometimes its nice to forget the cancer and enjoy lifes little happenings. I for one am looking forward to the good news on t.v. for a change and time permitting watching the wedding. Yeaaaaaaaaaaa im all for it… Who needs a Republic.
Hi all,
I loved Diana and I think she did untold good for people who had not a lot going for them (especially HIV/Aids, landmine campaign, homelessness etc). I hope her boys are following in her footsteps. However, I think the cost of the wedding is ridiculous, despite claims to be reining (not a deliberate pun!) it in. The Royals are so outrageously wealthy they ought to be paying for their own wedding, or selling the pics to OK magazine to fund it (oh dear, would that be shockingly Non-U? Did you see the controversy over Kate’s mum saying ‘toilet’ instead of ‘loo’, and we’re taking this whole thing seriously?!) Yes it’s nice to have a party for those who are interested, but there are plenty more deserving ways for that money to be spent. And really there is no place in a so-called democracy for a royal family.
I think I probably agree with you Hatty, it’s just that there is so much Hype about it at the moment. I had a fairly harrowing day on Sunday, with the mum of a little boy refused funding for SIRT, and it just seems wrong that we can find money for wars, tax breaks for the rich, olympics, royal weddings, but not a few thousand to save the life of a little boy.
A republic, all those corrupt Presidents? No thanks! A monarch is a brilliant, non-biased, largely un-corruptable head of state.
£20 million, in the big scheme of running a country and the billions the country owes and the billion on the annual budget deficit is such a drop in the ocean. This country spends far too much money on an excellent NHS and yet many people refuse to take any responsibility for their own health, their own housing, excellent education if free etc etc
If the media is annoying you then don’t buy a paper, don’t turn the tv on and don’t listen/read about it. Hearing about the royals is much more interesting than some two-bit glamour girl or wag.
I’m organising a big street party and can’t wait!
Long Live the Queen!!
I’m very much looking forward to the wedding,if anything i don’t think there’s been enough hype!I love the sense of tradition and history thats tied up with royalty. It’s very emotive and unfair to tie the wedding cost as possibly causing a young boy to be denied treatment. It is certainly wrong that he can’t get the treatment that he needs, but to blame the wedding, of which i believe the royals are paying a substantial amount towards, is not really fair. Most people are having an extra day off,the sun is shining and i intend to enjoy the day.
I think it lifts the nations spirits in the current economic climate.
The UK spends millions on war, the NHS suffers because of this. I personally will be watching tv and hoping that William and Kate will have a long and happy life together. Diana is still with us through her son.
Hi folks, its me again, Liz,
Guess what I am going to remember the day of the royal wedding most for?
MY LAST DOSE OF TAX…
YIPPEE, I will be celebrating folks, but it wont be the royal wedding lol

Hope your celebrations go really well,Liz.
Will be thinking of you rather than being bombarded with all these good wishes for the Royals!
Everyone hopes they will have a super wedding day but the way some people ‘worship’ this family makes me despair… It really does!
Congratulations to anyone celebrating tomorrow, whatever your reason.
