I was very recently diagnosed with IDC, stage 1 or 2. They are still doing tests
before they can come up with a treatment plan. Now I feel a pain in my breast even if I do not touch it. It is a very low level pain that I can easily live with. It is more that I am worried that I can feel the cancer invading. It is worse at night when I am quiet in bed. Anyone experienced this? I hope it is psychosomatic but it feels real.
Hi Wahini, It will be your anxiety causing it I’m sure, upon diagnosis we suddenly became hyper aware of our bodies and especially when we know where something is and can imagine all sorts. It won’t be growing at a rate of knots even though we all imagine that to be happening to us in the beginning.
Things will settle down once you get started on treatment, these early weeks are the most anxiety provoking of all and it does get easier xx Jo
Hi Wahini,
For most of us, the middle of the night is not a good time as feelings are more heightened.
Nothing is going to change between now & treatment, bc is generally slow growing & wont be invading anywhere within a treatment time frame. Loads of us have had aches & pains at this stage & the fears you describe are common to most of us. It’s just the stress of it all.
Presumably, you’ve had a biopsy recently. This can certainly cause bruising & discomfort.
Take care

I’m so glad I found your post. I’m experiencing exactly the same. Lots of odd pain in my breast and chest. I was so relieved to see that I am not alone in this.
I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer on Wednesday and won’t get any further info about the various tests and treatment plan until Monday. While I try to get over the initial shock, this forum is providing much comfort.
Wahini, I think you need to ask your team exactly what they found two years ago. I just can’t understand how you wouldn’t have been told it if it was DCIS. There are other cell changes which are not cancer. I know it isn’t going to change your current diagnosis, but it might help you to have confidence in your team now.
A couple of years ago my sister had a small area of DCIS which was only treated with a lumpectomy, no radiotherapy and no hormone blockers. But she was certainly told it was breast cancer, and was put on the five-year follow-up. So I wonder if you had ALH (atypical lobular hyperplasia) or something similar? Whatever it was, it’s horrible for you to be left wondering what it was and whether you had the right treatment for it.
I had lumpectomy and SNB, turns out my cancer is grade 3, and 2 of 4 lymph nodes infected. I will be going for mastectomy in couple of weeks, wasn’t expecting that. I hope my CT scan will come back clear and that this downhill trend is leveling off NOW.
