Feeling sick with Tamoxifin

I am feeling sick with this now been 2 weeks since i started them and the last few days it’s getting worse. Have had 3 zaps of rads last week and thought it might be that but had my tablet and felt sick straight away. Does it go away or get better??? Am feeling on edge and funny head and sinus too. Sorry to moan but have had enough now and just want to feel well again

Thank you

Hi MURDO2323

Whilst you wait for the other forum users to reply with their experience and knowledge you may find the BCC tamoxifen booklet useful to read. It includes infomation on the possible side effects.
If you would like a copy or to read this on line just follow the link below:-

I hope you find this helpful.

Hi J

I have just started with se after 4 weeks of taking Tamoxifen. I take it at night which was suggested by someone here on the forum in the hope to avoid se but I am waking up many times at night with sweats and feeling sick. I also am getting restless legs. I have also had a permanent headache for about a week. I am going to give them a bir longer to see if they ease off but like you I just want to start feeling better.

Hugs

Thanks Viv and Sam

Am going to speak to my onc next week and see what he says i really want to take these, not sure if the rads are affecting me too i know it says it’s unlikely that you will get nausea with rads but my stomach is so sensitive to anything. I have been taking them in the morning and the hot flushes at night are getting better, was waking me up every couple of hours before.

Hopefully better days are just around the corner for us both.

Love Jxx

Hi sorry to hear that you are both finding it tough with tamoxifen… I am one of the women who take it at nighttime but have been luckier as I sleep through okay… I’m coming up to my 2 year anniversary of being on it and to be honest if I do wake in the night I do still feel ill…:frowning:

On tamoxifen since 8th August, I haven’t had a nights sleep since, with the flushes, my legs hurting and headaches, it’s been a slight nausea in the morning, not actual sickness. Grrrrrr!

Can i ask what make you are both on? I am going to try to get APS now but seems like none of the chemists stock it. The se are supposed to not be so bad. Have heard of another called Noladex??? Sure that’s wrong but it is supposed to be the best.

You get to the end of treatment and think that’s it but wasn’t ready for this. Will let you know if i get any joy with other brands, will ask the onc.

thanks for your replies.

Hi, my brand so far has been APS.

Hi jayne,
I have been on tamoxifem now for a month, i wouldnt say i have felt sick as such, but i have had a strange feeling about me, its like a kind of fuzzy heady feeling, not a proper headache, but a wierd feeling. I have also got a very dry mouth, i find that if iam talking for a while, my mouth just drys up.
I have had the night sweats and the flushes during the day, since chemo, so dont think its just the tamox.
Ihave been on amitryptalene for neuropathic pain for a few months, but have found lately they havent been working, so i went to the gps on tuesday. He has prescribed me gabapentin 900mg, starting on 300mg, then 600mg and now 900mg. These are for my pain, but have also been used for hot flushes. I have now had 3 full nights sleep without a single night sweat, or hot flush. So i am thinking my fingers crossed that i will be ok now. My pain is also so much better.

Hope you dont suffer in silence, go and discuss it with your gp or onc.

Best wishes Sharon x

Do you take it with a small glass of water rather than a sip? Worth a try. Also experiment with the time of day. I switched from taking it at night to at lunchtime - what a difference! I have less nausea and I’m not awake all night with hot flushes.

Rads does make you feel a bit rough. It may be worth having something to help you with nausea through this. Perhaps speak to the team?

take care
Elinda

Hi Jayne

I have been on Tamoxifin for a few months now. I have just recently changed brands to APS (not by choice but the chemist) and I have notice the se’s to be a lot less. I don’t seem to get as many hot flushes or night sweats now! I also take my at night.

I also use a silk pillowcase which is fab - it does cool you down.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everybody i suppose it’s just trial and error will try till i find what works.
