Bit of a long one but I feel a bit silly being referred twice in a year.
For context I’ve always had an inverted right nipple but earlier this year and once the year before I was on antibiotics for discharge/infection. When it happened earlier this year I was given 2ww clinic appointment, was told nothing there but the ultrasound showed a mass and so I had biopsies taken which I was eventually told were benign (don’t actually know what it was, wasn’t told). I now have another referral as I found I had the discharge again and when examining it felt lumpier than usual, and when I hold breast between forefinger and thumb, you can see a bump/lump through the skin, it feels thicker and denser on the side. Gp reckons it’s just breast tissue and that I only felt it because I was “pinching/gripping” the breast, she also didn’t take note of the discharge again or ask about any previous issues. I noticed the referral form she had ticked the box “I am very concerned my patient has cancer but does not meet NICE NG12 guidelines” so I’m a bit confused, she didn’t seem concerned at all is this just procedure? I also feel silly going to the appointment if it is just nodular breast tissue. Im not sure what to think really, will it look weird giving more details to the consultation if the Gp did not include them in referral?im 34.
Don’t feel guilty , if you’ve got something a bit different going on it’s definitely worth getting looked at again even if it is twice in a year .Give them all the info re previous issues when you go , the GP has probably ticked the 2 week wait box as she can see you are worried but doesn’t see any obviously concerning symptoms .Good luck with your appointment.
Thanks for your reply.
Had she left it as it’s probably just breast tissue I’d have been fine with that, just wanted the new thicker/lumpier part looked at is all and if not concerning that’s all good. Thanks very much!
Hi @jovi99
No question is silly when it comes to your health. If you’re concerned you should definitely get it checked out.
Hopefully you can be reassured at your appointment. But whatever the outcome you have done the right thing
Keep us posted
And good luck

I agree with the others. You have done the right thing. I was 54 at diagnosis but the year before I had discharge and crusting around the nipple and was told it was a benign condition called Ductal Ectasia. The a year later I found a lump which was cancer.
You have done the right thing. I hope you hear soon to put your mind at rest.
