Has anyone else experienced this after starting femara? Cancerous lymph glands in my neck seem to have swollen up since I started taking the femara. I only finished chemo on 2nd Jan and am very concerned that the tumours have stopped responding to the chemo so quickly.
Hi Patricia
I think it can happen as the cancer cells fight the effects of hormone therapy, but don’t quote me on that. Maybe they’ll be some other answers on here soon. Also I shouldn’t think chemo would stop having any effect that soon as you’re still in the 3 week post chemo bit you’d usually be in if you were having another dose - if you get my drift. If not the helpline here may be able to help. Hope you get sorted.

Hi Patricia
As Nicki mentioned you may find it helpful to talk this through with someone from the BCC helpline. The staff here are all either breast care nurses or people who have personal experience of breast care issues. The number to call is 0808 800 6000 the lines open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm and Saturdays 9am - 2pm.
I hope this is of some help to you.
Kind regards
Sam (BCC Facilitator)
Hi Patricia,
I have just started taking Femara and get pains where the secondaries are. I think it’s a known effect from the drug. Do you get dizzy spells too?
Peggy
Nikki - I did phone the helpline and they agreed with you about the chemo but were not aware of this as a side effect of Femara. They seemed to think it was because I had been unwell with a bad cold (still have a bit of a sore throat and cough). But my oncologist said that he would have expected both sides of my neck to have swollen up - not just one side.
Peggy - was very glad to receive your comment, was beginning to think that I was just clutching at straws - when did you start taking Femara and when did the pains start? Have not noticed any dizzy spells though.
Many thanks to you both
Pat
Hi Patricia,
started to take the Femara 7 weeks ago and the pains started after about 4 weeks, same as the dizzy spells.

Hi Patricia
I have been on Femara for almost 2 yrs (bone mets -L hip) I did notice slight increase in bone pain when I first started taking them, I also experienced the occasional dizzy spell…infact I still do. However saying that I had a bone scan two weeks ago which showed ’ no evidence of active disease’ so lets hear it for Femara!!!
Hope you get an answer to question re-lymph glands soon
Hi, ot2walk
