Hello, I recently found a lump, my doctor said she thinks it may be a Fibroadenoma but has requested I get a scan to find out more. I got the letter within a few days but it is a 5 week wait until the scan, If she suspected it were cancer would I have a quicker appointment or is that the standard wait time? Also I have read a lot of people say that with Fibroadenoma they have pain is this the case? I have no pain at all. I’m so worried & will be for the next 6 weeks until I get the scan and results. Thanks in advance for any replies x
Hi Mandy,
It sounds like your dr has referred you for a general scan appointment, presumably ultrasound, rather than to the breast clinic, which is normally done under the 2 week rule for unexplained breast changes.
It most likely is what the dr says & mostly its nothing more serious, but you do need to have bc excluded otherwise inevitably, you will worry.
It may be worth going back to your dr & requesting a breast clinic referral as you are worried about it.
ann x
Hi Mandy ,the GP can refer you to breast clinic as urgent (seen within 2 weeks) or non urgent which sounds like what has happened in your case .There are national guidelines regarding referrals that they are meant to follow .She is obviously not concerned that this is a cancer related lump but 5 weeks is a long time to wait when you are anxious .Jill.
Thank You. Yeah hopefully it’s what the dr thinks it is, I’m just a worrier so I always expect the worst x
I know the feeling ,I’m like that too ,horrible having something like this hanging over you.If you read some of the threads in this section of the site you will see that the vast majority of women with lumps report back saying it’s not something sinister ,so the odds are on your side .Try and keep busy .Let is know how you get on .Jill.
